13" ultimate vs. Pro coil

Depth and more clear seperation of targets, that was my experience after using one on my etrac for a year.

At this point I'd have to say the biggest difference I see is coverage because it's larger. My soil is nasty and often runs below 10 or 12 in auto 3. The half dozen or so runs with the Ultimate has not demonstated any eye opening difference in depth even though I seem to be able to run slightly higher sensitivity. The separation seems to be about the same as the procoil but the tones are not as crisp. I have noticed a change in the clarity/crispness of tones with each step up from the 6" Coiltek to the 15" WOT--they get "cleaner" sounding as the coils get smaller.

I'll ask this here as it fits with the OP's original question....

I was reading Bryces' field tests on the Ultimate and if I remember right he really liked it but in his last test he mentioned that he dug a bunch of trash that sounded good and hit in two fifferent directions so he changed his strategy with the Ultimate where he only dug if it sounded good from 3 different directions? Think I read it right? Anyways....has anyone noticed what he'd mentioned in their experience with the Ultimate? Think he was using an Explorer......

I'll find out soon enough as I have one coming at the end of the week.......

In my opinion it is not even noticeably heavier than the stock coil but is much, much lighter than other large coils. I really like it.

I ordered the Ultimate and it is listed weight is 490 g and I weighed my Pro coil at 550 g, I just sold the Coiltek 12x8 because it was too heavy, worked great but wore me out and it weighed 805g, and I also weighed a sunray X8 and it weigh 450g. so the Ultimate is very light weight for it's size and just a tad more than the X8 and less than the Pro coil, I also seen were the NEL Hunter 12.5x8.5 is listed as 590g

That listed weight is without the cord. I weighed all of them on postal scales. My pro coil is 18.9oz with cover and me ultimate is 21.3oz with cover

10% becomes noticeable after a while but it's not untolerable. I notice it the most when changing directions.
I tried just turning in one direction but I kept getting dizzy and falling down.

Bill------Those two weights you stated are EXACTLY what I got on my two scales for those two coils (with coil covers).------Why they give a weight on them without including the cable is beyond me.-----The Ultimate is somewhat noticeable in weight difference over the stock coil (on a long hunt) but certainly not a "deal breaker" if you like the Ultimate.-----Myself, I think the 11" stock is VERY hard to beat in a larger coil on the Etrac (both in performance and weight) & I've tried about all of 'em.

Yes the pro coil is a really nice coil and hard to beat. The 2+oz is noticable over a few hours But i dont think there are many things the ultimate can hit that the pro cant. Ive testes both side by side and its back and forth. Ive had a couple targets the pro found that the ultimate did not see. Both were wheaties shallow with lots of rusty metal. I like the pro for most of my hunting.
