13" ultimate coil. can only run in auto 3?

I used the pro coil for the last six weeks on my etrac. I exclusively ran in manual sensitivity around 29-30. I just got the ultimate coil and now i can only run in auto. Theres too much chatter. I'm still finding coins but am i trading off depth for ground coverage? I havent noticed any real depth increase with the ultimate. Ive tried even turning my manual sensitivity down to 24-26 and still get too much false signals. I run in multi CO. Deep off fast on. I always ground cancel and I'm finding I'm needing to do that more often while hunting the same area. Has anyone else having these same issues?

Ill give this a shot though I do not use that particular coil.

You say you turn down the sensitivity to 24-26 I Have to chuckle a bit because my soil being so mineralized Im really pushing it to use sensitivity at 21 with my 12 inch SEF most of the time and in fact I hunt an area with a larger14 inch coil where the sensitivity can only be run at 8. Id say run in auto for a bit and see what your machine suggests, then try turning it down a little from there and how stable it can get to then adjust upward as you get used to it. MOST IMPORTANTLY learn how to ignore all the sweep chatter by getting used to it BUT practice by throwing a coin down and notice how the machine hits and hits consistent on the coin even in the midst of all the sounds or background sounds. this is probably the hardest thing for folks to learn with E trac is that it is not always a quite machine with a steady background hum. Yes you can reduce the chatter and false hits but listen for the high pitch and consistent hits. GO SLOW! and swing at different directions to check a target, if its consistent, NOT IFFY, deap ( more than 4 inches) then see what it is.

running sens up that high does not always equate to finding deep coins, as it can backfire. Im thinking that may the cause.

i dont have any other coils either other than the stock, but this seems like something where youd actually have to test out each coil at the same location, youd have to switch the coils to see if they each do the same thing.

id be very curious to know, like utah says above, what is the SUGGESTED sensitivity with each coil. if there is a huge difference at the same spot with each coil then id be afraid that something is wrong with the new coil. i hate to say that and i dont mean to frustrate or upset you.

i know its a pain but you need to swing each coil at the exact same location and see if they both do the same exact thing. is it possible that you have suddenly started hitting sites with a lot more junk and mineralization? the only way to tell is swap coils at that site. i have seen suggested sensitivity go anywhere from 9 to 31, so i guess my sites all vary widely, i know what its like to run at 9 and at 31, and anywhere in between. every site is different.

i would set the machine for manual 26 for your test. (NOT auto, for sure) sweep with each coil and listen for the chatter, compare the two. (try comparing at differents sens. levels, like manual 20, 15, etc.....just keep it the same for each coil) with each coil, toggle over and see what the "suggested" sensitivity is. i would imagine they should have the same amount of chatter and the suggested sens. should be similar. dont change anything on the machine during the test except for the coils. especially do not change the noise cancel channel. do not noise cancel for the test, leave it set where it is.

I also don't have the Ultimate but i've got the NEL Tornado same size.
These larger coils are more sensitive taking a little getting used to.
They're basically a larger receive antenna with a little extra chattiness due to thier greater sensitivity.

Because they also can pick up EMI better, noise canceling is more important with larger coils.
I typically have to throttle down the sensitivity setting a couple notches relative to the stock coil to calm down the chattiness/falses.

Unless there's something wrong with your coil, don't be fooled by the sensitivity settng thing. Give it a few detecting sessions.
My small coils run full speed ahead max sensitivity...smaller antenna, less sensitivity.

I've hunted with the ultimate almost exclusively ever since it came out. I normally run manual sensitivity, TTF open screen. Sensitivity I normally run at 27 but sometimes have to go down to 24. If I have to go lower, I just switch over to auto +3. On sites that I have to do that on, I would probably be better off using a smaller coil anyway.....but I don't. I normally don't have a problem with around 26 or 27 but it has taken some getting used to. Yes, there will be some chatter and "blips" but once you get used to the difference between those and a solid target, you will see some surprising depths. My first few weeks with the coil I was ready to sell it for probably the same frustration you're feeling. Then I found a few deep, deep bullets that I had missed with the 10 x12 sef and all of a sudden it seemed to click. Now I use the ultimate in almost all situations. I can pick out good targets from iron in many situations that I have missed with other coils. My advice is don't give up yet. A lot could be the sites you're hunting on, a lot could be that you're just not used to the coil yet. Try hitting a few relatively old/clean sites where most targets are deep and all are old. Or better yet would be sites that have been "hunted out" but that you just know have to have some deep stuff left in. I had to learn my ultimate on some farm sites where I hunt colonial relics. With little modern trash to dig through it's easier to decipher what good/deep targets sound like with this particular coil. I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't get the coil to find the easy clear targets, I bought it to find the deep, sometimes iffy sounding, targets and it does that very, very well.

Thanks for the advice! I'm used to some chatter with the pro running at manual 30 so ill stick with the ultimate and continue to trust it as i learn its language. Pinpointing and target IDs have been great so far.

Your coil have issues, or ells something wrong, go back to your old coil and forget about this particularly coil. Its not good if you cant raise sensitivity. Good luck
