13 inch Ultimate coil

I finally had a day that the surf was kicking my butt so i went home and got the Sov with the 13 to play with. All the comments you guys posted were pretty accurate here on the Gulf. Its a very sensitive coil.... reminds me a lot of the slimeline when it first came out, people didnt like it. I had no problem PPing with the tip.... targets were right there when wiggled in place. You did need to play with the sensitivity going from wet to dry sand using manual sensitivity to get the best depth out of the coil. Auto sensitive on about all the targets i tested..... seemed to run the same as 12 oclock in manual.... so there is room to gain some depth. I could run mine in the dry sand about 8 oclock... any more and you got nulls.... which is just another form of falsing. It was crazy deep in the dry sand and very stable there. Got tricky in the wet close to the surf. I switched over to AM there and dug one paper clip a good 10 inches or deeper. In the surf.... you better dig deep and fast or you arent getting down to the deep targets. Its not as stable as the SEF, but its still very sensitive to small targets..... seemed like i was even hearing more foil and copper bits than before. Its not a bad combo with the Sov, but i have to agree a lot more sensitive to salt/blacksand..... i would think that will also equate to EMI. Supper easy to swing and maintain coil control. It will false if you are a golf swinger at the end of your swing.... and it likes the scoop.

You will find that the 13 is sensitive to EMI. I usually only use mine at the beach but do on occasion use it in parks etc where the electric lines are far away. At an old school building that had been converted to a community center I could not detect in the area where the electric lines came into the building. However the next afternoon I had no problem as they were not using as many lights etc in the building. One park that I have hunted the EMI was so bad that even with an 8 inch coil on the Sov I had to listen real carefully to be able to hear the targets. Dug two silver rings and quite a bit of clad out of that park so the time was worth the effort. HH

This is a very sensitive coil..... much like the slimline they put on the Explorer SE when it first came out. A lot of people thought it was trash or broke because they had been using the Explorer II with its superior standard coil. I just use it on the beach and am willing to give it some time..... but the SEF coils are a lot more stable in transition from wet to dry sand. On another machine...... these coils may be very good.

Dew,I saw a You Tube video with Gravedigger using the SEF 10X12 on the beach. The video was very impressive with the finds.I haven't used the 13 but compared with the T10 the SEF is stable and a little more depth. Thanks Ron

Down here Ron any larger coil is going to be deeper than the standard just because of having less minerals. But .... down side nulls from deep iron and the salt can make you have to run less sensitivity and coil shutdown can reduce that depth advantage. Those SEFs are real stable IN the water as Max has shown. The HUGE advantage also that people dont get who hasnt used both the Xcal and Sov on the beach is..... headphones. Over the last say 10 years IMO headphones and coils have made the biggest advancement to what we have been finding depth wise since the tech hasnt changed much in the box.
