12xxx Suggestions

Recently I've been using a Whites 6000 Pro XL in All Metal in my park. This detector will ID in All Metal also. My problem is if a target is 4" or more it doesn't respond or ever ID even with the 9.5" Coil.or a Blue Max 600 Coil. I even tune the GND Balance slightly positive. I buried a copper Penny at 5" and now can't find it !!

I'm not bashing the Whites but in my soil its a no-go for deeper objects below 4". I can hear fainter responses in All Metal 4-6" but cannot validate these signals.

My question is which 12xx Series Unit is a killer on signals below 4" on land??..... not beaches or water. A friend of mine uses a 1280x in our fresh water lakes and pulls coins 12"+ easily.

I must have tough soil for most detectors to dropout at 4"? I prefer trying the best 12xx Series available rather than a CZ or F Series. I consider myself a advance user but would like to break this 4" limitation:fisher:

Hi Bill, if I had the $$$ I would love to try a Fisher 1270 I have heard/read nothing but good things about them & they say they are a deep detector. Steve.

I have a 1270 here in Roanoke Va and soil is just plain nasty, most of detectors here have to have manual ground balance. The 1270 has manual ground balance in AM but I haven't had to use it.I'll tell you this though the 1270 is overkill here rediculously deep.even in this crudy soil.1270 got my vote,1236X2 is pretty descent too

Can't say what these machines will do in your soil, my suggestion in order, 1270, 1266x, or 1265x. Not a lot of 1200 series machines left to pick from. Keep in mind these are all beep and dig machines, no ID meter.

Have to agree with Woodchuck and WV, I've had alot of exper. with the 1270 and she will totally get you deeper then 4"s, with the 5 or 8 " coil, as for F/water she really excels, real deep jewelry and silver coins even after she's been worked, A/M's is a killer in F/water too. Second piuck for me would be 1265X.

For about the same money as a good used 1200 series Fisher you can buy a nice CZ detector and it will detect coins deeper than you want to dig. Look for a CZ5 and you won't regret it.
