12x10 coil

I was wondering if anyone has used the 12x10 coil on a Deleon or Cortes and how did it do? Did get get any more depth ?I have a C.S.C. and havn't used it enough to give much details, but from what I have read it doesn't have much depth, just looking for the biggest coil that I can put on my Deleon to cover alot of ground and get good depth.
Thanks Greg

I have one for my Conquistador and Eldorado. I also have had a Bigfoot coil for my Whites 5900. Each coil has it's uses, and they are very different.

The CSC is just made for maximum ground coverage per sweep, and not depth. This type coil make it easy to cover a good bit of ground in just a little time. You will be primarily "Cherry picking" with it, as it's max depth will be around 4". This is a great coil for clad cleaning in parks, ball fields and dry sand beaches.

With the 12"x10" you are going for more depth, especially on larger objects; i.e. bigger then a coin. This does not mean you will not find small objects like coins deeper with it, it just means it's better for deeper big objects like large relics and even bullets. With my 12"x10" I have found coins deeper then I would have without, but it's harder to do, and needs a slow careful overlapping sweep. I would get one if you are going to relic hunt a good bit and don't want to get a "relicy" machine.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply, you told me what I wanted to know. Right now my main thing is coin shooting, and I bought the c.s.c. for realy one reason, I was trying to locate a 1900's amusement park that is now a corn field. I have other large area's that I want to hunt, but I feel that the targets will be deeper than what the c.s.c can reach, most likely I will stay with the stock coil for now. I live in a area that doesn't have a Tesoro dealer close, so i have to rely on people like you to advise me, and i do thank you.
Happy Hunting
Greg

My opinion is that it is just as deep as the 12 X 10, covers about the same ground and 'feels' much better at the end of your pole. It is pancake thin, light and less money. You can also find them on the classified from time to time. Good luck Greg

Hi Mike,

How does this coil run in nasty mineral dirt? Also hows it handle heavy brush and plowed fields, does it make the detector chatter? This is a coil I have over looked!

thanks,
scott

The coil will handle nasty mineralized dirt about as good as any other large concentric coil. I'm lucky to have pretty neutral soil in my area. The wide scan and/or smaller coil might be a good choice for that dirt you speak of.

As far as heavy brush and plowed fields, I love this coil when I use it. If you have deep furrows in them fields, the large coil might not get between them as well as your smaller coil does. You can get hung up in thick woods, but that is true of most any coil if the going gets too thick. The doughnut style coil only has the center opening for getting hung up versus several openings in the spider style coil. I have no problem in chattering. I have used it with a Pantera, Toltec 100 and Bandido with GB, but also with a Shadow X2 that does not have GB and the coil works great on all the machines!

You probably overlooked it, because it is not 'new and improved', but that doesn't always prove out in performance. I have found that one of the easiest, cheapest and sometimes best ways to upgrade a detector, is not buy buying the next model, but by changing out the coil for another size...be it smaller or bigger. The areas I normally hunt are open pasture, plowed fields and woods and I love a larger and preferably concentric coil. Ya might want to give it a try, I bet you like it and like it alot! Good Luck

What is the diff. of the concentric and the wide scan? I have a 8 1/2 wide scan thats on my Old Eldo. havn't tried it yet, I am new to this game, and I do appreicate the help from all you folks, (AND I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET)!
Thanks Greg

Hi Greg...Basically, most will find that the concentric coil discriminates targets better than a wide scan coil and concentrics will pin point easier for most diggers as well. Wide scan coils are specifically designed to handle mineralized ground better than concentrics and seem to be able to detect a target with a wider footprint than a concentric, but are trickier to pinpoint with. You will most likely find yourself digging wider holes to retrieve a target with a widescan coil. I meant to add earlier that pinpointing with the 10 1/2 inch concentric is easy and the target can be probed and hit with a screwdriver, etc on the first or second try in most cases. It is just as accurate in PP as the standard size coils as far as I'm concerned. In my almost neutral soil a concentric coil will also detect a little deeper than a widescan.

Take that 8 inch widescan out and give it a try and I think you will see what I'm talking about real quickly. I prefer the concentrics handsdown, but once again I hunt in very good dirt. Those who hunt primarily in mineralized dirt might very well say the exact opposite from me and for good reasons of their own. Good luck and hope this helps a little
