1280x

A friend of mine is considering a 10-15 year old 1280x with 8 inch coil for the Charleston S.C. area (beach). Is this a good machine for that area? Would one spend the extra money to get a new machine? and last, is the 8 inch coil o.k. or should he go with the 10.
Your comments appreciated.
Jeff

1280x is best for fresh water, not saltwater, will work on dry sand at the beach but will false in saltwater and wet sand from saltwater.
best to get a machine that will work in saltwater CZ20 , excal, or a pi machine. 10 " coil can cover more area but 8" will get the job done.

William!!If your 1280x is falsing in salt water it's not the water. It is your detector. I have hunted in salt water with the 1280x and the cz-20 in FLA. waters and have no problem for 28 years.

Mine only falsed if the water was appx 6" or less, after that it was fine. Even falsing you could pick out a good hit. akbell
