1280x

I own a 1280x and Excal II for water hunting. The 1280x is a great machine for fresh water, but does a lot of falsing in salt water. I recommend the Excal for salt water. I would be interested in other members opinions.

it is single freq detector it will not be good in salt water

It was my first water detector. The sensitivity can be reduced a little and then it is usable for salt water as well. It has found me some coins and silver, have not had any luck with gold from water yet. It depends on what you prefer, but I do not miss discrimination in the water, so I use a PI detector (Tesoro Sand Shark). Again, it is not the best out there, but on the other hand, it is well made, not too expensive and with lifetime warranty (in US).

great fresh water detector but as ALL single freq detectors (except a PI) not good on salt beach. ok on dry sand but when you hit the wet sand they loose depth and false a lot.i use the Excal and Sovereign's they work great!

My S.H. MK 2 has served me very well and I don't have any complaints!

Yea the 1280x is a fine machine and built like a tank but keep it away from the salt water . It works fine in dry sand though but is very noisy in the surf and wet sand.

Fergettaboutit for salt water. OK for dry sand and wet salt sand. Salt water is just not the right place for the 1280X. It is an excellent fresh water machine and almost bulletproof. I owned one for 15 years. It is a great detector but not for salt water.
