1280x

yes and no........... some salt beaches have lower mineralization levels than others. i owned one for years. used mostly in fresh water. it is a single frequency vlf detector. you can tune out the chatter by reducing the sensitivity. but you loose alot of debth i recall at most salt beaches in the water i could not go much past 3 on the sensitivity. that was on florida beaches. i love my ml excal. !!!

good luck!!

the Gulf and on the East coast.did not work! too much chatter/falsing.with sen down it would only hit coin at 4"...go for the CZ20/21 or Excal. they are great.no chatter and coins at 12"

I hunted with one years ago and am saving to get another. The 1280 will false when the wave breaks over the coil. But now that the Tigershark is being redone in that price range mid 600's the 1280 is a good value for the dollar if you don't want a PI. Also with the 8" coil makes a good land unit

The 1280-x has paid for itself many times from my freshwater finds but I had less luck using it in salt water. That is why I recently bought a PI machine. The 1280-x is also pretty durable- I've owned 2 and have gotten many years of use from them. George.
