1280X water repair

I had posted a couple monts back that my 1280 sprung a leak into the electronics. Just want to thank Fisher's for a quick and effective re-seal. They got the machine back to me in 3 1/2 weeks. I was worried that the repair might cause some loss in depth, sensitivity and noise problems, etc. It runs smooth and I think it might even go a little deeper judging by air tests.

I sunk it in a pale of water for three days waiting to dip it in the lake. No leaks, runs great and detects deep. The bill was 130 bucks and I am very satisfied with their service. Someone had mentioned they has sent their 1280 to a repair center/ dealer and they weretold it was not fixable or wasn't worth the price to repair it. They might want to get another detector dealer...Fisher told me that the main factory is the only authorized repair center for water machines. Good hunting to all and thanks Fishers for both the great water machine and excellent and affordable service!

Glad you got great service from Fisher. I too have a 1280x (used and older made in either 93 or 99 - don't remember which - so no warranty). So far no problem with mine but am glad you let me know about the factory being the only authorized repair place and the cost was reasonable as well. Wonder what it would cost to send it in this winter for a tune up and overall check? Winter would be a good time to get it done before spring.

But, I bought this machine new back around 1990. At that time, the warranty was for 5 years. This is the first problem I have ever had, they repaired it quickly and very reasonably IMO.

You could call Fisher Lab and see what a 'tune up' might cost. It will cost that plus postage both ways. Good luck
