1280X Nets first and second gold!!

Fortunate to get out today, went to a beach in Brooklyn. Found the Cristina earring 14K on the clasp (Top Left) first 5mins. What a rush, I actually thought it was a charm for a necklace til I got home, I also thought it was much bigger  . About ten mins. later I found the three gold charms (Top Right), I don't see any marks on the charms but I think they are gold, the anchor's fluke is bent. Found about every size earring too, The 2 big earrings are gold colored, one is heavier and not smooth but more like textured, not pitted though. The round piece on the bottom right is gold colored very thin I didn't see any marks on it. The other 2 earrings are silver colored and one has a small pink heart charm on it. The second pic has the 2.35 clad and believe me there was a lot more square tabs and other junk.

One of the things I noticed which pleased me was how well my 1280X ran in the saltwater especially the wet sand area where water ran over the coil, it was very quiet with the sens up around 7/8. Disc at 2 1/2 I had waders on but no scoop, (hurry Santa) all of the jewelry finds were in the froth of low tide and dug up with my gator digger. I tortured myself and ventured out up to my hips to see how the 1280 would do and was able to get the sens up to 8/9 I hit a lot of targets but without a scoop.....UGH
Thanks for looking and HH
Glenn

Hello TreasurdiggrNY,

I'm very new to metal detecting and I'm still trying to figure my way around. I bought the Fisher 1280 X and it seems to be working out real well for me. So far, I appear to be the bottle cap and penny king of the beaches that I am working in Miami. It's cool though because I'm trying to learn the signatures of the various targets.

How happy are you with the 1280X?

You obviously know what you're doing by the looks of your recent finds. Pretty cool stuff.

Take care

Hey ravilla999,
I'm still new at this too, the above was one of my best days until yesterday when I found my first gold ring, it's posted in the beach section.

I love the 1280x, I bought it because I needed a good all around detector. I have used it on land, it's fantastic. I plan on hunting a lot of freshwater lakes come spring and I heard this is a great detector for that.
It is great at the beach in the dry and wet sand but it is not a true beach machine so you have to adjust the settings for your conditions for when you are actually in the saltwater. for example, by me in N.Y. saltwater I can run with the sensitivity between 5 1/2 to 7 in the water depending on the day BUT on the Jersey shore the sens setting is usually at 5 1/2 to maybe 6. I always run my disc around 3 or 4 which will knock out the iron and smaller junk. I dig some bottlecaps, a lot of guys do, I know some people who dig everything. Don't write off the pennies as junk either there is a guy on another site I visit he loves pennies, he cashes all his pennies in at the end of the year and buys some kind of gold coin. He has bought a gold coin every year for like the last 15 years. Good luck with the new machine, looking forward to seeing your finds, hope the info helps

Hey Glenn,

For now, I'm content with digging everything the 1280X detects. I get a huge kick every time i find a penny in my scoop. The beaches in So. Florida are beautiful this time of year and not too crowded, so I'm not complaining.

I was a bit concerned about some of the posts that I've been reading concerning the 1280X and its use in salt water. after reading your post i am a bit more encouraged so I'll keep at it.

Cant wait until this upcoming long weekend to get out there and explore some new areas. i hope to have some to post once i get out there again...

The 1280 seems to do well inland or in wet salt on both low or high conductors, and this unit operates in the VF [voice frequency] range [below VLF] {which seems to do well in wet salt}. The depth you get on targets will astound you. If you are looking primarily for jewelry and not coins, learn to play with the discriminate control and find out where pull tabs drop out and quickly check the targets. If they still read good after you knock out tabs, you have the option to leave them, if GOLD/PLATINUM are your main targets. [Those metals are at VERY high $$$ right now.]
Its simple to learn, easy to use and is no second place finisher.:detecting::bouncy:
(Special note: There is an internal pot that can adjust the ground balance, so check with your dealer/distributor.)

Glad your having fun with the machine, I am too. I have read negative posts too but you get that with all the machines and hey, I just found that ring 8inches down with the sensitivity at 7 and the disc at around 4 and there was no doubt the machine was telling me DIG THIS.
I am hoping to get out soon including this weekend too, looking forward to seeing your finds.

Great tips Vlad, thank you very much. Thanks also for the info on the internal pot that can adjust the ground balance, I am very interested in that info.
