1280X and Head Hunter Diver Questions

1280X users, can you clear something up for me? There seem to be mixed reviews on the 1280X in saltwater. Some say it is noisy and poor in the salt, while others claim they find lots of gold by turning sensitivity down to 5 and discrimination to 2. Either the 1280X works good in the salt, or not! So which is it? Keep in mind I have seen 1280X saltwater ring finds that would pay for 5 machines!

There is a method to my madness. I am wondering for my Caribbean treasure hunting vacations if I can get away with K.I.S.S. detectors? I have found lots of gold with my Excaliburs. I tried the CZ20 once, but had to turn sensitivity down to 4 in the salt. Plus it would not ground balance there at all. To make a long story short, I know about the possible new CZ21 and new Excaliburs. But when I travel, I take 2 or 3 detectors as back-up, or a pulse detector for deep sand. That ads up the weight pretty quick. Plus the idea that 1280X is turn-on and go simple appeals to me. Nothing to fiddle with like constant Excalibur threshold adjustments and electrical interference... So I am wondering if with a 1280X or HH Diver, I might actually spend more time detecting and covering ground- hence more finds? But not if saltwater drives 1280X crazy!

What I also like about 1280X with 8 inch coil is one can collapse down to fit in suitcase whole. It would be easy to pack 2 1280s and no assembly required upon arrival. The HH Diver is also so easy to pack, so I was thinking 2 Divers and the HH Pulse would make a great combo for travel, possible needed depth and back-up machine. But, I wonder if the Diver goes as deep as 1280X on gold rings? Plus, there is no doubt in my mind 1280 is built better than Diver.

Some might wonder why an Excal user is even thinking about such simple detectors? How many hours do you have? But it comes down to this. I have watched saltwater detectorist scoop up some fantastic targets with both those machines, but I always dismissed them as toys and in favor of machines with more bells and whistles. Can any 1280X/HH Diver users here share their thoughts?

Thanks, CC.

iv used 1280X for 20 years.they are a good fresh water machine but they totally suck around salt sand..they do fine in dry sand but the Minuit you hit wet salt sand its all over! they will false like crazy and if you turn sen down you loose too much depth. the HH Diver does not have near the depth as the Minelabs.the best detectors iv ever used on salt sand is Excalibur,Sovereign GT,CZ20 .the Tesoro Tiger Shark works well on salt sand but lacks the depth of the Minelabs.and last a good PI. i only put PI as last because it will dig you to death for junk due to lack of discrimination.in 40 years of detecting iv not seen anything out perform the Minelab's on salt sand.good luck with what ever you choose!
