1280 x......???????

Mark

New member
Really need some help here.

I am going to buy a water machine in the spring, although I am at a crossroad as to which one.

The 1280 x seems nice, but I tried one out and found it very noisy. Disc was way down and still a very scratcy , constant sound. Is this normal with the 1280x ???

Also was looking at Tesoro Tiger Shark.

Any insight on these two machines would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Compared to the other unit you mentioned, the 1280 has 50% more depth.

Basically the 1280X has been one of the best freshwater machines around for over 10 years and is deeper but built like a tank. Most Fisher units of this vintage replaced, but not this one...
Tigershark is probably more receptive to extremely small gold but not that deep and certainly not built like a tank although its much lighter and not as clumsy which means nothing in water as everything becomes buoyant and light in the water...Go to a mult-line dealer and try both on for size......taking into consideration once your in the water both are easy to manuever...

is very sensitive in fresh water and almost too sensitive to use on land especially with the 10.5 coil. I run mine in fresh water with no disc. and the sens. amped as much as possible. It is very well built and batteries seem to last at least forever. The only thing I don't like is the fact that it is a mono tone machine I dig every thing anyway but it is nice to cherry pick sometimes.

I've never had a problem with erratic behavior in salt with a 1280, and I've hunted the Gulf Coast from Lake Charles to Padre Island. I wonder if your coil is not right. Mr Bill might be able to add something like tones. I've even used it inland CW hunting at Pt Hudson.

I had a Beach Hunter ID by Whites with multi tones and lights for indication of what was below. I found the thing too confusing - and bulky. Even taking off the control unit and mounting on me it was too bouyant and bulky.

I love the Fisher 1280-x. Just got mine last summer - traded the BH ID for it. I don't regret the swap of detectors. A good magnet in your scoop will help with excess iron in the sand and muck under the water.
