1280 Question

Looking to branch out into fresh water hunting this summer and had some questions for you 1280 users. How is it on gold rings, will it pickup the smaller thinner ones? Also does it work good as a dry land detector similar to other 1200 series like the 1225X? Thought I could use the 1280 durring light rains out in the fields that would otherwise kept me inside. Thanks in Advance for any help Mike.

Yup it is good on all of those points, It runs at a lower frequency than the 1200 series to punch down deeper in the heavy mineralization. 2.4khz for the 1280 and 4.2kz for the 1225.
They're really hot on silver. Stable machines they are! Both machines are work horses and have been around a long time. There are more sexier machines now, but are are like expensive high maintenance girls. Still have the 1225 and the 1266, the quality is excellent and still loads of fun.

Thanks PennyFinder, thats what I was hoping to hear.

Hey OhioMike. I picked up a 1280x as my first detector and cut my teeth with it. (I've since upgraded but I've held onto the 1280) I never found gold with it but that probably had more to do with my inexperience than the machine. I know its not as sensitive on gold with its low search freq. but I'm here to tell you that everything PennyFinder said is true. It's a good quality, solid unit. It proved to be a very capable dry-land coin finder and it loves silver. I had the larger 10-1/2" coil and common opinion seems to be that that's what you want on this machine. It works great in the rain and muck and I loved being able to go out in any weather with no worries. Only drawback is it's pretty heavy but hip-mounting the control box ( I never did) should minimize that problem. JMHO
