1270 settings and info

WV62

Well-known member
Was going out to the test garden but still raining/snowing, so a little air testing with the 5

Well, I'll offer this up for now!

My DigFellas 1270,
5"x 10" elliptical coil
Sensitivity = 8.5
Silencer = off
Normal Disc
Discrimination = 7.5
Quarter = 10.5"
Dime = 9"- 9.5"

My 1266,
3.75" coil
Disc #1 =8
Sensitivity =pulled and turned full CW
Quarter = 8"
Dime = 7"

I made it to my test garden today and pushed away 3" of snow. Now the 2 coins have been buried at 7" for over a year now, the little 5" coil on the 1270 would not hit on either one in disc mode. I was able locate and pinpoint both in PP mode.

Well I finally I took the 8" out to the test garden and got dig-able signal, then I tried the 5x10 and it was hitting on the coins about the same as the 8". So now I got my settings and the 5x10 is my choice of coils over the 8" and the 5". I am ready for some warmer weather.

I also air tested both the 8" and the 5x10, the 8" gives just a hint stronger signal on the dime and quarter, but it was enough to give a different number. I am calling the dime at 9.5" and the quarter 10" both coils. So with the 5x10 having better ground coverage, depth is better than the 5" and the 5" width makes pretty good in the trash. The 5x10 is the one hanging on the stick.

Well I have been saying I posted my 1270 work sheet in this post, so now that I looked back I didn't. I am glad everybody knows I citified to hide my own Easter eggs.:lol:

So now I will try to get it attached.

Just a note, my brother Mark has been doing the same testing with his 1270 on the coins along with me and the machines are giving the same test results. Also you will notice my testing is pretty much a coil comparison.

Have you tested the 10.5'' coil? just wondering how it stacks up?

Doug

Sorry I don't have a 10.5"

Used the 10.5 for years in NJ soil, on land , in water and beaches`. can't give air test data because i don't play with that but on the depth readings from Ron and Mark there on the money, remember 25 to 30 years ago a 5" coil getting 8" depth on a coin was unheard of and if someone said that it was bull. the 1270 depth is beyond the coil size to equal depth size. Old time an 8" coil might give you 7.5" depth if the operator was really super smart in detector adjustments but back in the 70's & 80's it was all Disc settings and getting no tabs and foil and pulling up lots of coins. Now good target are getting scarce and running multiple and diff. mode setups on the 1270 will get above that coil size depth targets,so if your looking at Ron and Marks AIR readings take them pretty much to the bank and just look for a little more depth then that to good detector setup adjustment and time in the ground HALO effect on the target. Great write-up Ron and Mark, gives good insight to the probable depth you can receive from the 1270 with consideration of the different mineral content of the soil at the readers location. Well done ...................

Thanks shooter

Great inf shooter. and Ron!! Thanks, Doug in VA

I kind of thought that about all the new 1270 machines were gone, but I was just over in the classified and there was a listing by DeMarco Detector I went to their site and they have them listed as a special sale price. If what I saw was not some kind of a typo they have a pretty good deal for a new machine.
