1270 Hip mount

Looking for a hip mount for my 1270 or I might have to make. If so anyone know how to remove the handle from the case, 1265X was easy but don't want to screw up the warranty 1270.

Let's see if I can remember. First remove the lock nut and washer from the trigger. The trigger is soldered directly to the board so if you don't do that first you could break the connections. There are 4 screws that hold the case halves together, 2 are located in the battery compartment and 2 recessed screws on the underside located either side of the hand grip. Once you seperate the case halves unplug the speaker wire from the board then remove the bolt and washer that secures the bottom half to the grip. If I recall correctly it is not absolutely neccessary to unscrew the cable connnector from the lower case half but it might make it easier.

That should do it, just go slow.

Shooter before you put it back together apply a thin bead of silicone or black gasket replacement stuff to the case half mating surfaces and the groove the faceplate mounts in for a little extra protection from moisture.

Unfortunately the 1270 was one of the most ill weighted, poor ergonomic units I ever used and can see why you want a hipmount...indeed Jackpine offers some good advice but do be careful as you don't want to lose years of warranty as most outfits the warranty is lost if modded...Good luck in your project....

What would a guy do with the mode pinpoint switch

Leave it where it is, flip the box with the switch going out, worked with my 555-D, problem is don't know about the Life Time Warranty from fisher, you have to open the box to take the handle off waiting to hear if that will VOID the Warranty1265 comes out in 1 piece, 1270 splits.

I hip mounted mine a few months back and it woeks great! I did not have to open the case at all. I removed the handle and case from the shaft as one unit. The bracket I made lets the unit slide into it and the trigger is easily accessible...although I rarely use it. I did have to go to a bicycle shop to get a top handle grip to mount on the shaft...but it is more comfortable than the original. The bracket I made from a file holder from an old file cabinet...I got the square belt loop piece welded to it.

Hi Kieth,

Nice setup. How are those coils working out for you?

Sa-weeeet Jack...this thing goes deeeep! I got invited to hunt a National battlefield last month with a few others...and it really kicked butt!! Found lots of cannister shot (copper and steel), musket balls, cannonball fragments...some as big as my hand! and other items not identified. The archeologists tagged, bagged and GPS each item where they were found. The 1270 is now my "go to" machine.....thanks again!

Hay Jav, Not much cookin, Had 2 stents put a few weeks ago, but I'm ok and Doc says Back to Normal. Doing some old foundations I did before just a bunch of indian heads and wheaties. that old farm isn't doing good at all, woked for 6 full days 1 1883 IH and a Clad dime , 200 years old can't believe its a bummer.Making that hip mount for the 1270, but the stock 8" coil has a 3' cable and need a 7' cable. Asked Fisher if they have one or can make one they say it won't work and they don't have any and I asked them if the cable can be lenghtened with a splice and they said that wouldn't work to get a new coil w/7' cable. I can't believe it won't work, they something about the resistense in the wire, I said the 3' and the 7' use the same wire right he said yes, so I said there isn't any problem when I switch between my 8" w/3' cable and my 10.5" with a 7' cable so why cant I make the cable longer, just said it won't work. So thats what i'm looking for.

Had the same problem. Went on a few forums classifieds and posted a wanted...Fisher 1200 series coil with 7' cable. Jackpine Savage came back and I bought mine from him.. You might try that method. Best of luck. Kieth
