1270 Coils

Hello folks. Have not posted on here since I let a friend have my 1265x. I just picked up a mint 1270 Anniversary Edition and I need a 10.5 inch coil for it. Is the 10.5 inch coil for the 1270 the same as the 10.5 inch coils for the 1265x? Thanks in advance!

1265X coils will work on the 1270, but will not work on the 1260X. You have a nice machine to detect with.

I will add to Irsir, I know we are talking 10.5" coil, but you may have trouble with the little 3 3/4" that would work on the my 1265x and 1266x but would not work on my 1270. If you look around you my be able to find a used 5x10 elliptical, that was my favorite. It got about the same depth as the 8" stock, would cover the ground of a 10" and worked in the trash like the little 5". It wouldn't keep up with the depth of the 10.5" you are thinking about.

I traded my 1270, but I can say it was a really good machine.

Thanks, I need it for open fields to go deep, now I just need to find a 10.5

Boy I just sold a NICE one the other day.

If you put a post up in the classifieds here one may turn up, also keep an out on Fleabay.

The 1200 series coils I had previously were the black coils. I thought the white coil was for a different series or do they fit also?

Ah. Not so!
From the early transition from the 1265 with the white box coils came the first 1266 spider coils, those coils were white. My 1266 has a white OEM 8" spider coil. Learning these coils can expand your search for coils.

The picture below is of the stock coil on my 1266, the coil cover is a Tesoro donut cover that just happens to fit the 1266 coil, I was just trying to close up the bottom of the coil, it works but it also collects stuff in it.

Many people including me really like the white coils because in low light or night hunting, they almost glow. The first release of the 1266's had white spider coils and the detector also had two circuit boards, later on the circuits were combined into only a single board.

The second picture is of my 1266 with the 10-1/2" coil mounted on it. (also notice the hank style coil wrap)

My neighbor gave me the 1266, yep! a freebie.

Thanks Mark, I will expand my search for one. Just thought of something else, if the early models had two circuit boards and I am assuming the 1270 has a single circuit board will the early coils work also? Of course how in the world would you be able to tell the difference if there is any?

Yes, the early coils will work.
What happened was the 1266 was an upgraded 1265, in that upgrade the added electronics wouldn't fit on one circuit board. After a couple of years of production and electronics advancements of micro circuitry they were able to combine all the electronics into one board. Some old timers claim that this turn of events had a minor negative effect on the detector's performance while others claim no negative effect at all because the same circuits were being used, just in more compact electronics.

Thanks again Mark

Ok, I have the 1265X and 1270 been using them both since they came out. Before I had the 1270 I purchased 10.5 coil for for my 1265X and it was a black spider coil, can't remember when but it was a long time ago, when I purchased a 1270 I checked with Fisher and they said that 10.5 coil was interchangeable with the 1270, purchased the 1270 detector knowing I already have a 10.5 coil for it. Upon use of the 10.5 coil on my 1270 I found that it lost the pinpointing feature on the 1270, I re-installed on my 1265x and it pinpointed fine. So after a lengthy discussion with Fisher the tech told me that there was a difference in the coil one had four wires one had five, he asked what was the date I bought my coil, told him I didn't know, and I didn't know that there was a time frame on compatibility , nothing anyone advertise states the same, but it really wasn't a big problem. Later on my 10.5 coil had a problem I send it in Fisher after talking to Felix with my 1270, they did find a problem with the 10.5 coil also I believe they remembered the no pinpoint problem and Fisher as usual to care me 100%. I'm just posting this as information in case someone has the same problem as I did and might help him out.

smokey63 the 1270 is a nice machine super depth and when you figuire out the litlle things you will find some nice stuff got my first gold locket with a 1270 at 10" deep 12k

Thanks guys. I borrowed a 10.5 coil off of a 1265x and it worked perfect on the 1270. Sad part is 2 weeks before I bought the 1270, I bought a brand new 10.5 coil for another friend of mine on clearance from an online dealer for $65.00. If I dont find one I can always borrow one I guess.
