1266X

I just got back into coinhunting again after about 8 year break before that I hunted for about 30 years during the good times of plenty. My dad kept hunting into his 70,s until he passed away about a year ago and I was left 4 Fishers and a White and Bounty hunter.I used to kid him about a detector he bought that he used a few times and put back in box he was a fisher user and I was whites user that detector was a 1266X he got mad at it and went back to his 1260.I took the 1266X out of box and have about 8 hours use on it last couple weekends man this thing goes deep I have not found a good coin yet but have found good junk toys, bullets, jacks, deep good junk.I am thinking about getting new detector spend about 1000 dollars how does today's detectors stack up against this 1266X for depth I live in Illinois.I locate utilities for a living so I run a metal detector about 50 hours a week.I have been watching videos on metal detector hunting on Internet they do not seem to be going much deeper than the 1266X.I have been leaning towards F75LTD by the way what really is Boost Mode.

save your money the only advantage is weight and better discrimination i run a fisher 1270 and i would put it against a f-75 or a tesoro tejon for sure, mr bill one of the forums people here and asked him about the depth in his few and said that that f-75 was slightly deeper in disc mode over the 1270 but in all metal mode they were the same!

If you can handle the noise(snap-crackle and pop) certainly a favorite of many relic hunters...as far as depth certainly depends on your ground and expertise but for years was one of the deepest around and still is..Newer detectors are lighter, better battery consumption but certainly not the tank construction of the 1266....

The snap, crackle, pop is hard to get use to but I have been going slower hard for an old 6DB user like myself seems to help. Have dug few holes that could not find anything could hear that something was in hole while sweeping but went to all metal was no signal started swinging again, again sounded good. dug nothing in hole must be hot rock/Gremlins?I am running 7 on first disc and 4 on second disc mainly for moving pinpoint dig deep pull tabs and sneaker eyelets now and again.A friend loaned me his Minelab e-trac for a week it makes a lot of noise also. I had a lot of trouble getting use to pinpointing was going to buy one of them until he loaned me his.He hardly uses it.I have been trying to train myself on this 1266X because I was told that if I got good with it I could run anything Fisher made.I took dads old duck taped 1260 out still works good and is more stable. On the 1270 it has switch iron mask will that get rid of old bottle caps. Thanks everyone for replies.

Hunted 10 hours at small Masonic park with 1266X.Dad and I hunted for 30 years found lots of great stuff there till we both agreed we had hunted it out.I dug everything with disc set at 4 with 1266X found a lot of neat things, no coins.3 Lead horse buttons to 10 inches one 32 bullet casing at 9 inches.I was going to order V3 White was $1400 just for detector.Wife put limit at $1000 I ordered Minelab Safari $998 should be here by next weekend. Will hit this park with new detector to see if it is any better than dads new/old 1266X.I dug the deepest target today that I have ever dug in this park it had to be 14 inches it was a solid brass double valve oxygen fish tank valve about the size of a half dollar.

i think if you got yourself a brand new 1270 you could of saved yourself some money or a cz3d and i hope you can get use to there tooth fairy tones too as well but good luck all different animal all together

Prep1957,what part of Illinois do you live in, im in Galesburg the west central part of the state.Good luck with your new detector...Markmac

Near Ottawa Illinois,Got e-mail from Kellyco Safari Minlab back ordered couple weeks so I will be using 1266X for a while.Been to Galesburg couple times downtown is great old town like Ottawa bet you dug a lot of Barber and Seated silver have you ever noticed the Barber coins seem to sink deeper than the Seated never hunted Galesburg, hunted New Windsor,Annawa,Mineral with Fisher 551 or 552 and Garret Ground Hog 20 years or more ago worked for pipeline company in that area use to hit all the little towns after work the old TR machines would go 5 inches on a dime if you took your time lots of silver back then and cap guns always loved finding cap guns.I was looking at the 1270 taking a risk buying Safari for seeing through junk,Bought a detector called Daytona years back was to see through junk I got rid of in a week Kellyco took back as long as I bought/Upgraded to higher price detector.First time in 30 years dealing with Kellyco they did not have detector in stock.

i have seen alot unhappy people that have bought from kellyco and i was going to buy a new 1270 from them once and everytime i spoke to a sales person they were more interested in trying to sell me a whites than answer my ?? it seems like now the 1270 is a nusence to a lot of dealers but if people learned it they would have a just as deep of machne as the new digital machines i admitt the disc could be a little better but its nature of the beast but i can tell you honestly the 1270 will easily pick up a dime on edge at 6" with a 10.5" coil if you wanted to go casche hunting, amason jar air testing 31" with full sens so in real life ground bet you can hit 2' depth in the ground well anyways good luck on the minelab for sure!

Hey Prep, up here in Elgin as name suggests. Haven't been down to Ottawa for years. Was down there back in the mid-90's with the CZ-5 hitting some sidewalk work and one of these days I'll be getting back down that way. One of those great old river Illinois towns.

You ever get up this way let me know we'll go seeking the deepies.

When I called I had my mind made up on Minelab Safari sales person darn near got me to buy V3 explain why it was better you could find meteorites ,lock on to each single frequency, all the bells and whistles I was drooling from the description the thing that snapped me back to reality was they gave me the price with cordless head phones instant sticker shock kicked in.Then after looking at a lot on the posts I new there software glitches/minor improvements that were being done to original V3 so I asked what the cost was for V3di without head phones and if they were in stock I wanted the most recent model I got corrected by sales person that there was nothing at all wrong with original V3 I said that my be true but I wanted to the latest and newest model number wanted to take time to think this over and do a little research again now we were up to 1300 dollars I was in F75ltd,E-trac,T2 range did not buy anything. That sales person should get a raise I am no spring chicken almost got me.I think they knew they had no Safari in stock then but were doing there job to make the sale.I have had good luck with kellyco but it has been 15 years since I last bought new detector always borrowed one of dads he was buying one a year until he became ill.I did the brave thing and waited till Sunday when they were gone and ordered on line.Next day e-mail came that they were back ordered.I am still thinking of buying 1270 in addition to Safari for plowed field hunting.

In Elgin almost everyday one my pipes parallels Shales goes across Bluff City I get about 40 locates a day Elgin Bartlett area.Love new hot dog place across from Biggers you have probably seen me in the middle of Rt 20 with my trusty RD4000 during rush hour wonder who that crazy person with pipe locator was during reconstruction last year.Found a lot of nice old bottles during that construction last year.

as isaid kelly co is interested in selling whites detectors profit margin is huge amongst this manufacturer and kellyco is there biggest seller i admit the the v-3 looks like a cool machine but i hope you can find stuff to pay for the machine or neer. just keep that 1270 in mind for depth and simplicityits a sweet machine.

Called Kellyco could not give me time frame when Safari would come in canceled order.Called and e-mailed around found out Cabela had 3 Minelab's on shelf at Hoffman Estates Store 2 safari and 1 e-trac.Bought Safari cost me about 200 dollars more than Kellyco even though bought Minelab package that Cabela offers.$108 dollars Commie Republic of Illinois and Hoffman Estate taxes 10%. 40 dollars gas ,weekend alone 18 hours coin hunting comparing new and old detectors sore arm all honey do's put on hold all weekend.Wife returning Wednesday.Bought Garret Pin pointer tonight.Priceless.

Yep, land of the taxed-to-death. Mr. C's Hot Dog place. Good cheese fries. Across from Shales Pkwy. is that little salon. It's a former schoolhouse, site goes back to 1850's when the school was moved there from other location. Too bad they have those 8kV lines overhead. Bottom of that hill west of Biggers is former mIll pond, Hill's sawmill dating to 1830's FYI.

Been running Minelab Safari marking targets with golf tees.Gave brother in law dads 1260 a little beat up but works great,I still have dads 1266X which is almost like new.Ran both Fishers over marked spots that read good with Safari. We were hunting 1880"s large house on 1 acre lot in small town that was never hunted before, place was full of coins and toys.I just would like to tell you that old 1260 did a very good job brother in law was on his own in about an hour after hearing real deep coins made just a click in high Disc with 1260.There were only 3 times the 1260,and 1266X would not get target. One hole readings were funny for Safari but I would have dug readings were high enough but would not read coin. Both Fishers disc out above pull tab sounded like old bottle cap I would have not dug.Target turned out to be at 5 inches 2 clad dimes,1 silver,2 nickels.Within 3 inches of each other. One other target was 1900 Barber Dime at 45 degree angle kinda on edge.1260 would not pick up at all,1266 had to drop Disc to 5 before it got it.dime was at 7 1/2 inches measured.Fishers are still working great we did not even cover 1/2 of the yard.we were there 3 1/2 hours 112 coins $2.10 in silver 95% of coins were less than 5 inches really sang out when you got over them.Could have found some of them with Garret pin pointer that I bought buy the way it is a great pin pointer wish I had one of these in the 70's
