1266X vs Tesoro Cibola?

Hi CaboChris,

The Cibola and Vaqueros I have used were both about the same depth as the 1270. The main difference is in iron handling. When not "super tuned" the Tesoros handle iron quite well and run fairly silent on stuff near the disc point. Run them hot by supertuning the threshold however, and they start to like iron as much as the 1200 Fishers. Other than that the main difference is that the Tesoros like a slow sweep, they are not tolerant of a moderate sweep speed. Go a little too fast and they will skip right over deeper targets. Just something to keep in mind that you don't see posted aobut them very often.

After a competition hunt in which I used a Cibola I sold the new Cibola and bought a new 1236x.Tom is right you can't have a quick coil sweep and it doesn't hit as hard, deep or pinpoint as well as the 1236x Fisher. As you probably know by now I haven't regretted getting rid of the Cibola.

Hi Ron,

For some types of hunting and depending on personal preferences the slow sweep can be a plus and they do get good depth with the proper sweep speed. They are well suited for some tasks.

The forecast is for another warming trend the middle of the week and if the ground is not frozen I should be able to get out for the first time in months!!!

I just picked up a Musketeer Advantage haven't been able to use it yet because of frozen ground conditions. The manual says sweep speed isn't a factor on performance on this unit.
