1236x2 vs.ID edge

I have a chance to buy an ID edge for 200.00 but first i would like to know if it is deeper then my 1236 x2.

personally i thought the 1236x2 was better i had the id edge and i suppose just could've been my unit but i didn't do very well with mine and i don't think i'd ever take a chance on another but there is a guy in here that runs one and he finds all kinds of stuff

Well they are two different machines!
One is more geared towards "Beep & Dig" style (1236) (very popular among relic hunters but it does cross over to coin hunting)

The other is geared more towards the Coin hunter style.

On raw depth at low discrimination the 1236 may be a bit deeper.
But, for coin hunting with a little more discrimination and with Target ID then I would say the ID Edge would do better.

I know that my ID Edge with the 10" coil will easily make the 9" range on coins in average ground.

The 1200 series did have a much larger following than detectors like the Edge and for good reasons,
They made them for Years!
and when they first hit the market they were an instant success and relic hunters loved them!

So, the ID Edge isn't going to stand up to the 1200's cult following by no means, but at that the Edge is a darn good detector.

If you like the idea of beep and dig and don't like the thoughts of being "Meter Dependent" then the 1236 may be your cup of tea!
If you like to mainly coin hunt and you like multiple target ID tones, visual target ID, then a properly working Edge might be your choice!

One weak point for the Edge is its built in speaker, it doesn't have much volume, but most folks use headphones and the headphone volume is okay.

I realize there both different but even the #s in IDing is different than most machines, now i've never tried a coin strike is the IDing the same as the edge? i just couldn't get the hang of it or something?

AMC,I used the Coinstrike,Edge and Excel, like the Excel the best. The 1236X-2 is a very nice detector IMHO the experienced detector user will get the most out of this detector. My choice between these detectors would be the 1236X-2.The comp hunt in Ohio I attend the 1236s or 1235s are the dominate detectors that have the most finds.
