1236x2 or ID Excel - Which is better in iron trash?

Didn't get too many responses in the Fisher forum, so I thought I'd try here. Maybe I can get some straight poop from some of you Excel owners.

Just when I had my mind set on getting a 1236x2 because of all the great stuff I've read about it handling iron well, I started getting info that the Excel does very well with iron also. Some of the ghost towns I visit are covered with iron trash and I'd like something that deals with it better than most. Excel has a lot of nice features, but if the 1236 was better in the iron, I'd have to go with it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts - especially if you have both or lots of experience with either.

Thanks,

which is good because I don't have them both to compare......YET ;) Both have great reps in trash so I guess it may come down to weather you want the target ID & tones or not....

:compass:Ive had experience with both garret:garrett: and compass detectors in ghost towns in NM the Gila MTN. area and neither were very good in ironterritory. I am now in central Texas(LONG WAY FROM NM)and now own a :fisher:fisher 1236x2 with 8"spider coil. All i can say is WOW this thing is awsome in the ironrich land here.Kinda like Nail capital of the universe i think. I have no info on the excel but my 1236x2 can sniff a dime outta pile of nails 6 inches deep every time. I'm sure both garrett and compass now produce good machines but for me FISHER RULES!!!:detecting:

or anyone else in Texas, would you happen to know of any club or fellow detectorists in the Amarillo area? I'll be visiting family there end of Feb. and would like to connect with someone for a possible hunt. Thanks

I live in central texas about 100 or so miles from amarillo there and i know of no one there to help ya. Sorry but if near central texas some time look me up im always up for some ground fishing.....

Thanks for responding. I think the Palo Duro Canyon was as far south as we went on our last trip. I'll keep your offer in mind.
