I know they're pretty different detectors, but was thinking about picking up one or the other to try out. I hear the 1236-x2 is outstanding in iron, I'm not sure how well the ID Edge is in iron?
Are they about equal on depth? I mostly hunt for coins, and jewelery if that makes any difference, but am looking for something that goes a deep on the cheap
On the pro side of getting an ID Edge I have the Sunray probe and the 6" and 10.5" coils for my C$ which with the Sunray probe box/adapter will work on the ID Edge.
I had heard about the 1236 being great in iron so I bought one. Not as advertised, at least at my sites. Large and medium sized iron will fool this detector more times than not. Was looking for a lightweight detector with a minimum of frills for relichunting in iron-laden sites. Can't speak to the Edge, but from my perspective the 1236 suffers from what so many of the Fisher detectors do...poor iron rejection at depth. I'd get a good used Tesoro, maybe an old Umax or Cibola... better build-quality too. Good luck.
i haven't tried the 1236 but i did own an id edge and it did pretty good in the iron, but almost all detectors can be fooled by medium and large iron targets. i have been a die hard fisher user for many years and have surely dug my fair share of iron but also have dug many nice coins. you can usually tell when you are over iron by the size of the target and the sound. a coin just has a smaller softer sound to it. what i really liked about the edge was that when it locked on a target from different sweep angles you could bet the farm it was a coin. as far as depth i'd guess they are pretty close to the same. with the accessories you have it would make the edge a nice coin and ring hunter. learn where targets fall on the edge and they will usually be right on or within one number in the field. good luck whatever you choose..............roger
I havent used the 1236 but willtell you the edge works great for me around iron , it has hit coins that were at or below iron peices both on dry land and in the water wading
I have the 1236x2 and I am impressed with it. ALL detectors can be fooled by larger and rusty iron. The 1236x2 lets me know that there is iron with clicks and spits and that is what I like. My friend uses a xterra 70 and he is impressed with the performance of my fisher too.
Read the topics in the archives. There are plenty of them.
I have owned and used both detectors and with my limited experience I would go with the 1236X2.Though most people would probably pick the Edge. The ID Excel could be another choice.
