1236-x question ???

Mark ( ohio )

Well-known member
How would I know from the seriel # on the detector if its the Los Banos make, or the FT make??? Can't seem to find the manual, and not sure if that would help or not..

Mark ( ohio )

none were made by FT. All 1236's were LosBanos product.

If your looking for a super 1236x2 contact me. I have a new one in the box with a lifetime warranty still being honored by First Texas.

Mark,

Since 2001 all 1212s, 1225s, and 1236 units were made in China for the COHU owned Los Banos FRL-this was a decision made by Roger Cimino the then President of Fisher.

After First Texas Products bought Fisher they terminated the contract manufacturing Fisher detectors in China so they could bring all manufacturing of Fisher Metal Detectors back into the USA.

Only the very latest 1236

to your e-mail addy..... Thanks for taking the time to look into the manufacturing date for me..

Let me know at your convenience.

... well there is a guy who would know. How you doin' Mike?
Thanks for the convoluted story about the 1236-X2

i have a question... was just wondering why you felt the need to point out whose decision it was for those units to be made in china...it really wasn't much relevant, was it? wouldn't a "Since 2001 all 1212s, 1225s, and 1236 units were made in China for the COHU owned Los Banos FRL" have sufficed? just curious...makes it sound like you are bitter, or were thrown under the bus or something. personally, i am not a fan of things being manufactured outside the country however, it just seemed like there was no reason to go there...

thx

I think you answered your own question with this comment: "I am not a fan of things being manufactured outside the country..."

In case you didn't know, Mike is the Head of Global Sales at Fisher, and as such hears it from all sides - he knows what his customers like and don't like. Many Fisher fans are adamant about the Chinese contract units, in a not-so-good way.
I think the point was to let people know that it was a decision made by someone who is no longer there, someone who wont be making such decisions again.

If you know Mike there is no intended malice in his comments. But he is also not afraid to call a "foul shot," where one exists.
And for the sake of argument, lets say he was bitter or "thrown under the bus," as you suggest.
He's human, after all, and he is among friends here. He can show the chink in his armor from time to time and we won't mind.
