1236 pinpoint

For about the last 2 months Ive been using a fisher(1236x2)My first fisher since the BFO days.
Using both the stock 8" and a 12"hothead am having a lot of trouble pinpointing Both in Ground, and after target is dug and in dirt on ground.Especially IHPs.
It has Pushbutton VCO But Detuning doesn,t always narrow target, sometimes pushing PP several times results in a Monotone audio PP Mode, like Whites.
This seems more accurate but time consuming.
Could the switch be defective?
I often scan handfulls of dirt under coil so Will be installing a toggle switch for pinpounting anyway.
I am impressed with the 1236 sensitivity, and ability to read thru trash, just so much different from my Whites Uadible threshold and tone id.
Thanks and Happy Hunting,Mont

Mont,

Its hard to say whats going on. From what you described it appears the switch itself is working. Once the signal is detuned down to a short narrow blip over the target center most of the VCO quality is gone. Its been a while since I used a 1236 but I recall that on some targets it can be difficult to get the coil just right in relation to the target for the detuning to have the desired effect especially in trashy areas.

If you hold the coil directly over a target are you able to completely tune it out by hitting the button a couple times? Other than pinpointing is your detector giving nice clean sounding beeps over targets or is it scratchy sounding?

Tom

There may be a problem with your 1236x.My experience with mine it pinpoints very well.Could be a lot of factors ground conditions or a problem with the unit. You may want to run by a local Fisher dealer and have the detector looked at and compared with another 1236x.
