1235X

Hi All,

I use to post on here but haven't been here since, hmmm 2004 , 2005 but anyway I have a Fisher 1235X, It's maybe had one set of batteries through it since new and forget how to use it, never really learned actually. I'd like to start trying it out in my area, once winter passes but need some assistance on how to set it up. I completely forget where to start with the settings and since the move have misplaced the manual.

Thanks.

Get a big chunk of cardboard, tape or glue targets to it, put some near each other and some apart. Make sure you use both nickels, gold and foil junk well spaced . Add gold as available and don't forget clad and silver. Turn it target side down and you have a handy dandy setup test board. You can make a few with different target types and combinations. This will help you in target id'ing, pinpointing and separation. For better target separation, lift the coil to the point where the target is just beeping.

If yours is original, try setting the disc to 5 to start and move it up to see where the junk starts to give intermittent or broken tones. Keep your sense at about 7 unless you're getting chatter, then adjust both freq and sense until it disappears or gets to acceptable levels. Nickels will fail before some of the junk targets in most cases, but gold seems to come through very well on the 1235X.

I still use my 1235X regularly because it is a simple turn and go detector and has found some nice gold down to 8" in woodchips and dry sand.

Have fun and HH!

Thats a great idea. Yes its all original. I looked on the Fisher site and noticed they had the 1236 manual but I don't think they are the same. I'm going to go buy some fresh Duracell's tomorrow and build that card board setup. Thanks very much.
