1235x question

Eric

New member
I can pick up a good and cheap 1235x. How does it compare to my 1236x2? Is it only the silencer and the iron reject? If that is the only difference, then I can be happy with it as I never feel the need to use the silencer.

Comments welcome...

Thanks, Eric.

I was wondering about the X units. Didn't see a listing. Got a 1280 X but never used it. Onus

This is all about "things."

Having the silencer is one of those "things" where you dont know you'll like it - til you have it. I don't use it much, as I like to hear the crackle of iron, but it has its place. We got into an old farm field last year, littered with iron. I mean an infestation.
It came in handy, then.

This whole "thing" depends on how you define cheap, too. I like the old Garret 2-mode Freedom detectors, but they are no better than anything else I have. And Garrett doesn't support them anymore, so service is iffy. At a cheap enough price they can be considered 'throwaways', but they aren't worth more money than that. It's just the way "things" are with them.
The 1235 is pretty much the same "thing" - defunct for reasons that are probably justified, and similar to the Garrett's. It doesn't mean it's bad, but if the cost is too dear, then you are paying good money for an aged mediocre detector... which doesn't sound like such a great "thing."

The 1280-X 'Aquanaut' is one of the finest freshwater detectors money can buy. I've used a bunch of different detectors in fresh water and it is one of the very best VLF discriminators around for that use. Probably why they remain in the line up to this day.
If you ever want to sell it, let me know.
