12 khz hunt with reloaded v3.2

I was chomping at the bit all day yesterday to try out the Deus at a site I've pulled almost 20 deep early Wheats. Hunted it before using 4 kHz but the EMI was troublesome, and didn't want to hunt in other frequencies due to the can slaw quotient of the site. I decided "Screw it!" and hunted the entire time in 12 kHz with EMI being much more manageable than using 4 or 8 kHz.

As expected, I got a lot of faint hits when I first got there. The first target was a nice round sound, and after digging 9" deep (the length of the Propointer), I was rewarded with a .38 cal bullet. There were two large nails in the hole along with a 1" hex nut at about 7" deep and a little offset from the bullet. This fired me up! I knew that 12 kHz was sensitive to low and mid conductors, but this was unprecedented. Before in the same settings I would only be able to hit that same bullet in identical settings at 7" max. 9" for that target was a pipe dream...until yesterday!!!!

I went slowly along what used to be the front yard of the lot which dates back about a hundred years. I was after anything and everything that was DEEP, as in 8" and beyond. Had this program set up:

12 kHz
Sens 85
TX 3
Full tones
Disc 2.0
Reactivity 2
Silencer -1
Notch 00-34, 98-99
GB 83 manual
Ground notch 85-90
Audio response 4
Overload 2

I have other programs set up identical to this one with the only difference being frequency. Surprisingly enough this program ran very smoothly, but at times EMI tried to creep in. I found myself shifting the 12 kHz freq in the expert menu, and it quieted down the machine for a while before I had to shift again. A minor annoyance, considering what I was finding at depth! Can slaw wasn't as bad as I had imagined, but I did find plenty of it - usually VDIed in the 40s and 50s but jumpy.

After finding the first bullet, I got a strong hit about 5 feet away that VDI'ed close to nickel territory for 12 kHz. It was a 1954 nickel at only 3" deep, but was oriented perfectly vertical in the plug which may have been why I missed it in the lower frequencies.

Good targets were hard to come by on this hunt, and I did dig a LOT of iron, mostly nails but a few cast pieces found their way into my pocket. 12 kHz likes iron WAY better than 4 kHz - but this is to be expected digging those deeper faint hits where all you have to go on is AUDIO. I don't mind, now that I know the true potential of this detector. Last night really opened my eyes!!!

The religious medal was a good 7" deep and hit very well with a VDI of 51. I went over to an area that had a lot of iffy large targets and decided to try and pick those apart. I started on one corner of the "iffy pocket" and worked my way inwards. Got a 1915 D Wheat at only 3" deep but it was mixed in with a pulltab, three large nails, and the tiny tiny brass ring. That signal was a mess, and I'm glad I took the time to take it apart. Shortly afterwards and not 3 feet away came the other junker ring which registered solidly at "63" in 12 kHz and was about 6" deep. Then getting deeper into the pocket produced a lot of iron pieces, and I decided to move somewhere else.

Walked back over the front yard and got a nice audio signal with erratic VDI, and a worn 1919 Wheat showed itself. This coin was about 8" deep, and sounded cleaner than the bullet, or the religious medal. I would have struggled with this target at this depth before the reinstall, but the audio told me - no doubt - that a non-ferrous mid-to-high conductor was there and it was deep. Not far away I got a "54" which was the pot-metal elephant!!!

In conclusion I must say that the Deus runs a lot smoother with the newly loaded v3.2 - EMI is NO different but that's not something that can be programmed out I don't think. Running at TX 3 and Sens 85 or thereabouts, the machine is super sensitive even when I turned the manual GB down to 83. The soil around here GB-reads at 82-84 most of the time, and I probably could have pushed the manual GB higher and helped eliminate some of the iron targets. I can hit small targets MUCH deeper, not only in 12 kHz but in all other frequencies as well!!!

The difference in performance was something I would have expected with a new software update - the biggest area I notice improvement in is higher reactivity settings don't sacrifice as much depth. Especially 12 kHz in reactivity 3...this will likely be my new goto program since it outperforms 4 kHz in reactivity 2 with everything else being equal!!! Changing to Reactivity 1 in 12 kHz goes stupid deep - all US coins will air-hit at well over a foot with room to turn up Sens, turn down GB settings, etc

Just my observations - I have renewed enthusiasm with the Deus and to think that there are more products and maybe a software update on the horizon - it only gets better! :clapping:

Nice going. I have found that the higher kHz detectors work better at sites with really bad EMI.
