12.5" Proformance Imaging Coil :ausflag:

Hi All

A few weeks ago I purchased a 12.5" Proformance Imaging Coil, for my GTI2500, and I'm having a bit of touble with it, today out detecting I got a decent signal, then it seems to go crazy, with a sound like Brrrr, occassionally this happens. Today the screen went blank, first time this has happened, and I had to turn it back on, sometimes I have to reset with the factory settings. Also it seems it overloads or goes quiet or a jamming signal, it gets stuck, maybe the best way to describe it.

I have the sensitivity set at 6 and I run in custom mode, from 5 and upwards, I don't have any problems with the 9.5" and 4.5 Scorcher coils that I have.

Thanks

Went out this morning, found the above problem happens, when I hit the treasure imaging button ( pinpoint ) and the machine shuts down, maybe I hold it on for to long?

Elroy.
Contact the person you bought the coil off and run it by them. There is defiately a fault somewhere there that needs fixing or replacing. If your standard coil works fine, then there's a 90% chance that the problem is in the coil.

Sounds like you have a defective coil El. Take it back to whomever you purchased it from. If your other coils work okay then that pretty well narrows it down and eliminates the detector as the problem..

Got a response, sounds right to me, I'll try it tomorrow.

I have seen something like this happen when the sensitivity is too high.
The 12.5 coil is more sensitive than the other 2 coils. The sensitivity setting for this coil should be about 4.5 or 5 . See if this stops the problem and get back with me with the results.

I have the exact same problem with the 12.5 inch coil. It seems to be okay in areas where the mineralization is low, but it stinks when it's high. In some areas you can't ground balance it either, yet the 9.5 inch will work perfectly over the exact same spot!

I have corresponded with Garrett on this issue several times. One interesting point came from the correspondence. When I ask about the gray colored epoxy (rather than black like all the other coils they make), I was told it was because the electronics are different in the 12.5 inch coil. Since everything else works as it should with the 9.5 inch coil, the problem lies with the design of the 12.5 inch coil, and not the electronics inside the box.

Yes, you can adjust the sensitivity down, and reduce the incidence, however, the problem remains. In these parts (New Mexico), doing so cuts back the depth to that of the 9.5 inch coil. As a result, I no longer use the 12.5 unless I'm in an area that I know has low mineralization. That's no place in New Mexico, I can assure you!

PS: The problem you're having (shutting down the unit when you push the pinpointer) is also indicative of the issue. That was my first complaint, and resulted in a replacement which didn't help the situation one iota!

Went out on friday and this is what has happened.

Yes it has happened again at 4.5, was out for an hour and a

Another reply after I sent this message.

I. would keep the sensitivity around 4.5 and try to find a place free of any underground or overhead power lines, because these will effect the coil. Also if the ground is heavily mineralized this too will effect it.
Here in Texas the only area I use the large imaging coil is when I am hunting in a large open field looking for relics. It is just to sensitive to use in town and it will constantly give you a overload signal.

So I'll keep on going with it, it just might be powerlines, because I do detect near them, but the ground isn't mineralised.

Hi Alan Applegate, That's a shame is doesn't work for you, also mine is Black,

Cheers
