Has anyone tried this coil and if so, what are your reviews on it? I've been looking at it and would like to hear some reviews before I buy one. Thanks for any input.

Sorry, I must have missed your post..........

I have not used that one, but I have a couple of friends who bought them, sold them and bought the 10"DD.. I don't really remember why they didn't like it. My friends are coin/jewelry hunters and I think the 12" coils are a bit large for general hunting and the extra weight was also a factor I believe. Both of them really liked the 10" over the 12.5. I'll have to get more info the next time I see them.

If you were a relic hunter in cleaner ground, I suspect it would do a good job.

Sniper, what kind of hunting are you doing? I also haven't used the 12.5 but have been using the 10" like Larry. I am hunting coins and jewelry. As we discussed in another post, Whites is coming out with a 10" DD. They have been selling the MXT and DFX with the 12" but many people have been finding the coil too big for many situations. It looks like their new VLF detector will be coming with a 10" DD. At least this is what Carl@Whites has posted.

If you are relic hunting a 12" might be good. Read some of my posts the last week on the 10". I've really had good results. Rob

I do alot of coin and relic hunting. My friends and I hunt alot of areas from the 1700 to 1800's era. We do this for historical societies and I now use the 6x10 on my MXT. I'm looking for a coil that will give me better depth due to some relics and coin that we have found are sometimes very deep. I was looking at the SEF coils but still not sure what to go with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link to part 1 and 2 of Ian's test of the 12x15 SEF.

I'd like to get the 10x12 to compare to my 10". The 12x15 seems to get the relics, watch the 2 video's.

I know my 10" is an inch deeper than my 9.5 and 2 inches deeper then my 6x10. Today I dug one of my deepest dimes with the 10". the hole was half the way up my Lesche handle and I was about to give up. I was still getting a 83 VDI. The pin pointer finally beeped and it was a dime. I wish I knew if the SEF worked on coins. I know the 10" is deeper then my 2 other coils. I wish I could help you on the 12.5 but it seems no one one the forum has one. Rob

and I do really well with it in open fields. The only bad thing is if you bump it on something it will false. I might be running to high of gain, but I only use it in wide open fields and run it hot( It's great). I'm now looking at the new 18x 15 SEF butterfly coil. Just my opinion.

I use the sef 15X12 coil and it does a great job on coins in mildly trashy areas. It has really good target separation and depth. It is light for its size but still noticeably heavier then the 950. If you were to use this coil all day you should get a swingy thingy. I am 76 years old and can swing it for about 4 hours changing arms, Pinpointing is easy and right on.
