got my 12.5 excellarator coil today from kellyco problem is cant run the gain past 7 without it chattering like crazy also took it out to my test garden ground balanced set to coins 7 jewelry mode and could not hit a quarter at 4 inches. wrote JW and email so im sure he will send a replacement ANY suggestions?? quess i just got a defective coil ,kellyco is usually pretty decent to deal with and i have bought mucho gear from those guys and have never had any problems.thanks all

I just got my 14" replacement and does the same thing,I am going to talk to JW.

Tom, I do know the 14-incher that I got early this year DID have a manufacturers problem with the windings. JW was quick to investigate the problem and sent a replacement. Kellyco is making the effort to replace those coils that were in that shipment and I am sure they will work with you on your problem too. Give them a call and explain the situation. HH

Robert, I received my first 12.5 EXcelerator several months ago. It too was unable to stabilize and seemed to null out when I would lower it to the ground. I contacted JW and he had me send it in for an evaluation. Apparently there was a similar problem with the early 14-inchers and that problem is to have been resolved with the manufacturer. The replacement 12.5 that I received works great, as I explained in my field test report a few postings below this one. Give them a follow-up call and I am sure they will resolve this problem for you. HH.

We are seeing more and more bad Exclerator coils being sent out without being checked over and letting the customers check them out, then send them back.
I just bought a Fisher Excel to try and it too has a problem like many other of the Excel do, so it too will have to be sent back also.
Just wish then had beter quality control and check these out before shipping them as we buy them to use, not to be shipped back sometime 2 or more times.

... from the reports on this, and other Forums, it would seem like a very high percentage of Excellerators are "dead on arrival." The only real praise about them that I have read is how good a job JW at Kellyco has been in replacing the faulty ones, which of itself is commendable. But still... hmmmm.... as expensive as they are, you'd think SOMEBODY would correct this problem.

so before you say something stupid have all the facts, such as total sold versus returns. I have replaced more manufacturers coils than I have Excellerators.

I would not believe a ##### word JW says. I called Kellyco about price matching a MXT for $639.00 around a year ago, he laughed and told me they would not match there price let alone give the price matching discount. He told me to go buy it there then and that he would be sicking Whites on him. I was shocked they do not honor there advertising and Ill be ##### if they still say they price match and then some?
Its ashame about the excellerator coils the 14 does sound interesting, but at the rate they are slapping these things together sounds like you roll the dice if you get a decent one!
Hope a didnt say anything stupid!

These forums are great places for information, but they only represent a small percentage of the detecting community. For every Excellerator sold to someone on this forum, another 30 or more go out to people that do not post. We get less than .05% back on RMAs and of that % many of the coils work fine and are sold on our used/demo page.
Whether it's an Excellerator, a Whites, Minelab, Garrett, Fisher, or any other product we sell, Kellyco stands behind it. I try to satisfy 100% of the people I deal with, but there is that 2% of the people that you just can't satisfy no matter what you do for them. Those are the people that go to great lengths to tear you down.

BUT, JW at Kellyco has done everything he has told me he would, If you bought a new Chevy truck and they has a recall for a faulty gas line, would they then too be crap ??? Sure I know it is irritating to get something that does not work right but I am sure a coil for a metal detector is not the only thing any of us have bought that didn't work right, atleast you can have them replaced, As far as prices go there will always be someone selling cheaper than someone else and you all know that not applies to detectors, I work in a cabinet shop, gave a man a price on a set of kitchen cabinets, he calls back saying he had 2 other people that were 1500-2000 cheaper, Well I priced his the same way as everyone elses so told him it sounded like he had found a great deal and should jump on it. Thing is people like to take one persons price and use it as a bargaining chip, if you find something cheaper than someone else has it for why even bother them, buy it. Well enuff said, hope I didn't step on any toes but Kellyco has been nothing but good to me,and I have never had them not do anything they said they would.

When I dealt with Kellyco I got what was promised. The salesmen were quite helpful and informative and I personally have no complaints about their service.
However, Kellyco advertising is probably the worst(along with some manufacturers). In addition, they sell those Electra Search LRLs. The question is who makes these LRLs- Kellyco or someone else? When your LRL doesn't work, it is easier to say "we don't manufacture these- we just sell them".
I have little respect for any company that promotes and sells LRL devices to the public.
