11 x 13" coil or 11" round coil?

Tony N (Michigan)

Active member
My Deus came with the 9" coil.
I am thinking of getting either the 11x13" coil or the 11" coil but don't know which one is better.

The coil would be used for sites not too trashy.

Would I be able to get a couple inches more depth or would it just get me more coverage?

Any of you folks have any ideas? 11x13 vs. 11"?

Funny you should ask. I'll be receiving the 11" from the Sabisches probably tomorrow. Read Andys trial of the 11 at the top of the forum. I have never been a really big coil fan but needed a slightly larger one for field hunting and for areas where trash is not too bad. I believe this is the better choice. HH

I have never had the biggest coil, for Deus.
I hear the weight is noticeable.

I also am aquainted with this gent who is digging silver parks using one (milder ground) the Minelabs seem can't hit with stock coils.
He has CTX too.
I would gear my learning of Deus with 9" coil,,,then using the bigger coil will be easier.

I do have the 9" and the 11" LF coils.

Tony I can only speak from experience comparing 9" LF coil to the same targets undisturbed with 11" coil.

Now remember my soil usually provide about 4 ticks in the minerlization meter when bobbing coil.

What I would see using version 3.2 was:

If I had to run reactivity to level 2 silencer -1 using 9" coil to hit a target.
I could raise reactivity one level higher and hit with 11" coil.

Now version 4.0 with the added 2.5 reactvity I haven't done a whole lot of coil comparisons on targets.

Now, using 11" coil for example you might be able to get true ID on deeper target vs 9" coil.

Also, some coil height above ground advantage can be had using 11" coil vs 9" coil.

11" coil is more emi prone on average.

And if you use the 11" coil on say medium minerlized ground,,,you may experience some ground feedback using full tones 0 disc,,extending disc up to level 3 usually solves.

Then you get the added ground coverage.

Btw, with masked targets, true the 9" coil is the odds on favorite for unmasking separation,,,but some masked targets the 11" coil will see or see better vs 9" coil.

Hope this info helps.

the 11 is better choice imo its lighter and you only gain 2 inchs on the front of the 13 inch coil.

Hello Tony,

I've owned both, 11"x13" and the 11". Extra weight was my problem especially with the 11"x13" coil, liked the extra coverage but in my soil the 9" fared about the same with depth. So I sold both larger coils never regretting it, the 9" coil is great you can push extra sensitivity in areas the larger coils can not thus gaining depth.

Think about the extra weight, Save the strength for larger coils with the bigger Pi's, enjoy the Deus with any of the two 9" coils both are great!

HH, Paul

I don't have the 11 x 13 or the black 9 but I do have the 11 and the 9 HF. That 9 HF will beat the 11 in my soil (mild), especially at 28 khz.

Mild soil. Haven't noticed any increase in smalls, but I sure have noticed the instant response, stability, depth, and the ability to separate good stuff from the middle of junk. Could be the black 9" works as well but I don't have one so wouldn't know. The 9
' HF shouldn't work as well as it does given the size and the frequency but it does......go figure.
