Some can be a bearcat, hot water, plastic is always more flexible when warm. Not boiling just faucet hot.

Im old school.......put it on the floor..... insert coil...... and step on it lol.
 
Some are worse than others. Good luck. I take mine on and off quite often. Never a problem. When beach hunting it is off.
 
Tried the hot water trick.
Tried clamping it.
No luck

On to the old school stomp lol.
 
I would contact Minelab and ask for a new one. Evidently you have one that is not up to quality standards. It should not be that hard to do. And you need to clean it out every so often.
