11" DD works great on the F5 :detecting:

I decided to try the 11" DD coil from my F4 on my F5. I set up a little test area with a variety of targets - coins, jewelery and trash.

First I tested it with the stock F5 10" elliptical concentric search coil, then swapped to the F4 11" DD biaxial search coil and went over the same targets.

With the F4 DD the TID was just as accurate as the F5 stock coil, and the air test appeared to be about the same or slightly better then the stock F5 coil. I know from using the DD on the F4 that bottle caps will probably ID as quarters (luckily I'm not getting many where I'm hunting).

The F4 DD coil, even though advertised as only 1" larger, appears much larger in comparison. It was a coin rake on the F4, it'll be interesting to see how it does in the field. It's interesting to note that the F4 is advertised with a frequency of 5.9kHz, while the F5 is advertised with a 7.8 kHz frequency.

So what kind of depth are you getting out of your f5 with the stock coil ?

I had no problems going 7"+ on the F5 with an accurate TID. Just depends on the target and your soil I guess. I haven't tried AM mode, but I've heard it goes crazy deep (12"+).

So Cal is it faster then the stock coil? Did you try the F70 and the DD (F75) and then the F5 and the DD (F4) to see if it reads targets as fast? I read that they may make both a 6" DD and a 11: DD for the F5 and they might work even better but let me know about some of your tests..Even no the F5 is my turf hunter a DD that works is what I really want. And I would like a little bigger coil how much does the F4DD cost? See you in March!

Hey Low-Boy,

I don't have the F70/F75 DD coil yet, so I can't compare it to that. Maybe when we meet up I can borrow yours or Harry's to test it out on the F70. I think the F4 DD is about $150-$175.

I'll report back on how the F5 does in the field with the F4 DD coil, should be an interesting exercise.

Brian

OK we can just line up a few targets and see how that F75 DD on my machine does and then have you do the same test on your DD with the F5

Hi Brian,

Glad to hear your DD coil works decent for you.

I bought the 11" DD for my Tracker IV and it works well on the Tracker. I used it on the F2 as well and it did decent on that one too. I tried it on my F5 but found it wasn't any deeper than the Tracker, about 7" in air. Still good enough for a clad sweeper though if one didn't have one. I use a Tesoro Golden with the 18" cleansweep coil on it for clad sweeping. I wouldn't recommend going out and buying the F4 DD coil for the F5. It looks like there will soon be a 11" DD coil specifically tuned for the F5's frequency. But if you do want one of the F4 DD coils, they run about $129 new and you can find used ones for around $80. Mr Bill probably has them in stock.

We have a competition hunt in our MD club coming up in May, so I need a fast TID machine with a good sized coil. I think the F4 DD on the F5 will fit the bill perfectly (or I could just use the F4, nothing wrong with it), it should be a coin rake, plus it's a lot lighter and faster then my Sovereign with the 15" WOT coil. If one could snag a used F4 DD for $80 it's well worth it, but I agree if there's a Fisher 11" DD specifically for the F5 coming (in our lifetime) then I'd wait. I suspect it's the identical coil as the F4 and F75 11" DD, just wound to match the F5 frequency (I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same housing). Good things are coming.
