10x14 Excelerator Coil :thumbdown:

I got my new 10x14 Excelerator Coil today in the mail. I was very excited to try it out since I had heard nothing but good things about it. I am sorry to say that I am very disappointed with the performance of this coil. It did quiet about 90% of the falsing over the stock SE coil, but it's depth capability was less then desirable.

Here were my setting.....

Wide open, No Discrimination (All Metal)
Manual
Gain = 6
Sens = 22 - 30
Fast OFF / Deep ON

It was breaking up on dime/penny sized targets @ 5-6
Unrecognizable on dime/penny sized deeper the 7", tones were all over the place and the cursor was bouncing. I have dug deeper targets with my stock 10" coil, even with all the falsing noise.
Also, the depth reading was all messed up. I was digging targets that said they were at 8" and finding them at 2-3".

The coil has been cleaned, re-boxed and will start its trip back first thing tomorrow morning. What a bummer!!! :sadwalk:

but my SE is set up differently. I run in conductive with higher gain so that might make a difference for some reason. For me...if I run with a lower gain of 5 or 6...everything breaks up in the 5" to 6" range on any coil I use here in IL.
I tried everything with the stock coil and just couldn't get my SE to work to my liking. I tried ferrous sounds/lower gain and sensitivity for a few months and just didn't make my usual finds. I finally went back over to conductive sounds/ higher gain... along with the 10 x 14 coil and started to find silver again.
Everyone has there own personal settings they prefer. I was unsure of the 10 x 14 at first...but I'm really glad I experimented with it. The last hunt I went on was a park that has been worked zillions of times by every detector including explorers. It is a small park the size of a school playground. I personally have hunted a certain 20 foot section by a pavillion at least 20 times with my SE and stock coil. The last time there I had the 10 x 14 excelerator coil on and popped out a nice 1899 Barber dime at 7" to 8" that was almost straight on edge from the exact same area.

I boxed it up and was ready to ship it out last week. However, I didn't feel as if I had done enough testing with it. So I pulled it out of the box and ran it for the last 3 outings. I messed with the setting and tried different things. I am still not getting anymore depth then the stock coil, but it is a nice break from the stock slimlines falsing. With it's additional coverage area, I have made the choice to keep it.

I was able to pull a 1909 Canadian out of a "hunted out park" from about 8"-9" deep. However, I was expecting more depth from a coil this size.

because I definately feel there is a place for it it my arsenal. I was hoping for a little more depth too...but I like all the other benefits that it does have...especially the coverage. I also feel it likes coins on edge. The sound isn't perfect with silver on edge...but it IS there if you hit one...and it will be good enough to make you dig it with this coil. The last 2 nice silver coins I found were with this coil and both were on edge and were missed with the stock coil. And you hit the "nail" on the head when you said.."no falsing"...thank goodness this coil settled that down some!

I received mine about three weeks ago and tried it three times so far. The ground is cracked and arid dry to the point I can not find anything with any coil deep. We have finally received some much need rain and I hope to compare the 10 x 14 to the stock 10.5 inch standard coil. Based on my experience with numerous after market coils, it's difficult to beat the standard Minelab coil. I'm expecting the 10 x 14" to cover a little more ground faster and a tad more target seperation and hopefully at least the same depth as the stock coil. One thing is for sure in my experience, the standard coil swings alot easier in grass / weeds compared to all the after market coils I have. Just my opinion? Happy Hunting all...
