weight is the same or close..in both coils. 1.3lbs to 1.1lbs...i have 2 MXT machines so my son-n-law had 9.5 on his i had 10x12 on mine..in my yard (been hunted a billion times over the years) last night i found an 1864 indian and a 1936 buffalo, tonight i locked on to a target reading 72-76 and 8 in deep, turned mxt off then he used mxt with 9.5 coil same settings..no noise at all. thats with gain maxed out, disc on 3 and slight hum. oh and we were using relic mode...then we tried coin and jewlery mode..i locked on he couldnt get a sound,,,not a peep. dug the target and 191? wheat cent at about 9-10 inches. im thinking this sef coil is a keeper!! also dug another older wheat cent next to a tree that the 9.5 didnt read. it was very deep too.

Thanks for the comparison. Have been toying with the idea of getting the SEF.

Would you by chance own a 6x10dd you could compare the SEF with?

Thanks!

yes i have the 6x10 DD ..sef is deeper which was the main reason i wanted it. i have found 4 really old coins in my yard after ive had every other detector over the yard with the sef. very clear signals...now with that said...i will still use the 6x10 most of the time cause it glides across the grass so smooth, gets plenty deep for parks and schools to clean up all the coins and gold. tonight with the sef i dug a hole to my elbow for a shotgun shell. i was whooped after that dig. im also getting very clear loud signals for 8 inches plus depth over rivets. tiny little rivets! very sensative coil.. i may get the 6x8 sef too.

Thanks for that great comparison info. basstrackerman. Pretty convincing review. I'm definitely planning on adding that coil to my quiver when I can.

I have done air tests of the stock coil vs the SEF 10x12 and found the stock 9.5 coil has better depth. Maybe I have a bad coil but the SEF does not give me a good VDI reading like the stock coil. The stock coil seems to give me about 2" of additional depth and much more accurate VDI number. It is not what I expected when I bought it. Anyone have any ideas?

you are the first i have heard that the sef gets less depth than stock 9.5 coil. must be a bad coil? my 10x12 gets a couple inches more depth and separates alot better than even my 6x10 coil.send it back and have them trade you another coil.

I think the ground in Central Ohio is much like it is here in Central Illinois, which is pretty mineralized. The SEF and DD style coils will excel in the mineralized ground where the
conical coils will excel in the mild to low mineralized ground. Then we have some people who just prefer one style over others.

because a concentric will most always do better in an air test.
