10x12 DD coil on uMax detectors

I'm looking at getting a 10x12 DD for my silver and golden uMax. How well does this coil work on a golden? Heard it does well on the silver but nothing on the golden. Does it affect the tones and will lack of manual ground balance be a problem?

Thanks,

Leeinsc

I have used this coil as part of a 3 coil package with the Outlaw, works real well with it (MGB). I think that you are aware by your statement, could lack of a manual ground balance be a problem....Yes it could. You might get lucky and have a "usable" ground balance between the two machines. The 12X10" DD covers a lot of ground on the Outlaw, good sports field, pasture or plowed fields. I relic hunt plowed fields with this coil using auto-tuned all-metal and checking in Disc. mode when I get a hit. It has one problem, it likes chunky deep iron, not a problem for me as I dig it all. The 8" concentric coil will be your best coil when dealing with iron discrimination. JMHO

Thanks Hombre. Yep, I know I may have to tweak GB trimmer. Guess I'm looking for a reason not to get a new toy.

A fellow would have a better chance of a proper GB with the Golden µMax because of the threshold all-metal it has. The silver you said you have, is it a Silver Saber ( 2 or µMax)? Or the last Silver µMax? makes a difference if it has threshold all-metal mode. Then if you knew which pot to adjust it would be a simple matter of checking ground balance in all metal mode. The last Silver does not have a traditional threshold based all-metal, and a person would have to adjust GB in Disc. mode using the "Power Balance"method. Good Luck and HH

I wonder how this coil would do on the old non Umax Bandido II? Has anyone tried it?
