Seldom in Life does a guy find an honest partner. Its outstanding if a fellow can count more than two...and that includes the Wife! Let me set up the backstory...

When I was new at this, I ran into a guy hunting a gravel totlot, we spoke briefly about the sport, said he'd been at it since his teens, He's probably mid 30's, family man,...then I ran into him again, and again and again! So we exchanged digits...Flesh does indeed sharpen flesh!...we would text or call each other when one of us found a good location and actually tell the other about it! This has been going on for what? 3yrs? Through all the trials and tribulations of Life and work and the love for the HUNT! He snagged a great 1853 seated Q outta one of the spots I found!:clapping:

I can say this guy has made me the kind of hunter I am today, He's out in all sorts of weather, year round, swinging coil, we text or call nearly twice per week about tearouts, blowouts, construction, waves, wind and water, etc...so it was only a matter of time we would do a good hunt together..generally our schedules dont mesh, so we typically hunt alone, and probably both prefer that anyway...

We both get jacked when the other guy finds a trophy! He has been hunting the water these past few years with his land rig, He can only go waist deep, cant get the brain box wet, but has been killing gold/silver and of course me with the wetsuit or trunks and the Pro...entirely different styles and gear, but dang, the metal lust is heavy in the both of us!

So a few weeks ago he ups and says..." Hey! You know where they dredged that old channel going out into the Lake?" "Ive been knocking the stink outta old silver in here!" And I say "yeah? in your waders?". and he says "yeah, theres all sorts of old stuff slumping out of the bank!"...Since I was in such a drought working the big water, yesterday late afternoon I met up with him and in that channel we went!.

We would hunt along side by side, me up to my chest, and him up to his waist, both finding and yelling, "heres a wheat! Heres a merc!" Then, He knocked down a beautiful 14k 8+gr ring! :beers: and then a gosh darn ring made out of a barber Q! I got two little peepee gold rings that together weighed in at 1.3gr!. a few war nickels, lots of junk rings though ..So after thinking about it all night, back in there I go this am, all wetsuited up and hunting, He couldnt go, like I said, hes a young family man, y'all know the deal... I got a 04 BarberQ, (my first), and this massive 12.3 gr. 18K! Lots of wheats..scrap silver, etc....

Anyway, Its a good story about how a good partnership can inspire each other to greatness, and this weekend, we freaking DID!:beers: Now all I gotta do is turn him onto a honey hole to pay him back...theres nothing left in here as you can imagine, or I wouldnt have typed this up to be read by all and sundry... We are one powerful team, and I doubt theres anyone in our area that hunts as hard, often, or successfully as we do, or we woulda met them afield....I'm bragging here about my Pal, and how he gets me up and out, but I knew you boys were all pulling for Ol Mud to get on some gold, so this is the backstory of how it happened....

One heck of a weekend of hunting and its neat to be able to share a spot with someone you enjoy hunting with. Good story and great outcome for you both. HH jim tn

Awesome "work" you guy's did in there Mud!!:clapping: Congrats on your 1st "Barb-E Q" Love that yummy 18k too:drool: Really does show collaboration can be a profitable tool in the ol' toolbox!!

Thanks guys, we went back in there at dawn today...big cold N wind and rain...He found more mercs and a tiny silver ring. me just some wheats...

I was way over due on the gold for the year, so this was just one of those things where it all came in at once! That big ring was made by a Jeweler from NJ, since 1916 and are known for their high end forged 18K and Plat rings...

The Pro wont miss a ring, no matter how small...that tiny babies ring is .4gr of 14k, has an old hallmark on it..Running pro zero 35disc, iron off, and 2clicks down from full power.

I nearly gave up on the big ring signal!, took at least 10 scoops down in the water/sand/mud to get it...I was thinking it may be a split shot or something falling through the scoop, but it was such a tight loud signal, I was curious..when it came up in the scoop, I thought, "Stainless steel", but once in hand, it was very heavy, so I then thought "tungsten"...it was only after I got back to the car and put on the readers that I wet myself bloody stupid!:lmfao:

Good friends are the real treasure we find, if we are lucky. I hoped to hit the river a few hours today after church, but Mama isn't feeling well and wants me to stay close in case she needs help. You really struck gold with this location and silver too. Sure glad to see you finding some gold and silver and detecting with a friend. I'm about to experience some care giver burn out if I don't get out next week.
Congratulations & HH, Mud.

Great background and yes, your partner is truly a gem. Real happy you kicked your gold drought, I know how that feels. The best treasures are the lasting friendship we forge in this addiction.
Ya know, Ya might want to rehunt that area with a different water unit just to see if ya can coax any more bigger keepers. The ATP like the fine stuff and gets good depth...but I'm never satisfied until I use two or three VLF/BBS water units in fresh water when I find a honey spot. Nice if you knew someone nearby who'd loan you something different for a day for ha ha's. Keep it coming.

Great story and finds Mud.I wish I had a hunting partner here in NC.I talked a couple of our church friends into getting a detector a few years ago but they never want to go hunting.HH

my best partner passed away 3 months ago. You guys snag those finds and keep helping each other.

Mud, great finds, a great story, congratulations on your good social relations. You did a fantastic job

See? Everyone's been telling you that you were about to hit it! And man, you HIT it! I couldn't imagine finding all those goodies in one outing....or two.
And I have a friend like that, but there's a few miles between us and it's been so dang HOT! The weather is about to turn.....they say. So I'm hopeful to be out somewhere with him soon!
Again, congrats Mud! Those are some awesome finds and you earned them!

Truer words were never spoken. I prefer to hunt alone because I naively trusted a dude with ALL my greatest spots a few years back. I eventually got it in the rear severely. Never again................ Anyway, WOW !!!, unreal finds and thanks for passing on that there are some good guys out there.:twodetecting::clapping::thumbup:

Three people bought metal detectors after I showed some of my finds at our church, metalfun and another member gave our pastor a white's classic detector, but none of them are using their detectors as far as I know. Our pastor is 76 and stays so busy, he doesn't have time and the other 3 don't use them much at all. One member bought the Ace 250 and found a few things but seemed to get discouraged and the other member bought herself and the pastor's grandson two cheap units and have lost interest. When I first started in this hobby, I might go 2-3 months and sometimes 4-5 months and not get to do any detecting and it was discouraging. When I got into water hunting, it got me more interested because the quality of my finds were much better. You have to be able to get out and find time to detect and find some good finds once in awhile to keep yourself interested. I miss getting out as much as I would like, but even when all I find is pull tabs and a few clad coins, it's wonderful to get out and wonder if you're going to have a day like Mud and his buddy did. You never know what's under the coil. I've learned when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I really wanted to go detecting Saturday and Sunday and was kind of bummed out that I couldn't go. Yesterday after church, I did some researvh and I stumbled across a resource by accident and I really think it's going to lead to some wonderful opportunities in the near future. I'm 0 for 3 out of my last 3 permission letters, but just found a whole bunch of new leads to follow up on and once I finish the 7 weeks of physical therapy and Mama gets to feeling stronger, I hope to hit some of these new areas. One area I really had my hopes up for turned out to be a subdivision, but 23 acres is still woods and near the site I want to detect if I can get permission this November. I believe finding this forum and others that I post on has helped keep my interest up and when I can't detect, I try and do some research a few hours a week. GL & HH.

Yep, a lot of lying two faced people out there.

Thanks again guys..sorry to hear about your Partner passing, xwyokid..:sadwalk:..this is a solitary sport generally...nothing wrong with that at all...

Yeah, its a very rare thing to run across a guy like this, let alone have a bit of trust to share info...we did evaluate each other for a few years...just kept running into each other afield all the time, so it seemed like we had the same 'spidey sense' when it comes to hunting metal... then, we sort of gently started communicating finds and locations...both of us didnt want to shove in and take advantage of the other, thats a good sign there..we both were genuinely happy for the other to get on something great at a site one of us found..

...like I said, this guy has been detecting since his teens, and has top shelf gear for dirt silver if you hear me..so he's damn good in that respect...he has been employing that same gear pretty successfully for gold/silver in the water....on shared sites, He hunts the shore and shallow water, and I go in deeper with the Pro...He cant go deeper with his current gear, and I WONT hunt shallow if its a shared site...now, if this fellow ever gets himself a Pro, then it will be a real free for all!

I'm expecting some pretty nice finds out of the rest of you, we all hit it pretty hard, and every so often, things fall in place like what happened here to me...thanks to this alliance, I was at the right place at the right time with the right gear and the right mind (such as it is)...
