10inch elliptical or 11inch dd

What would be better on the beach to cover more in the sweep? I have trouble centering target with a dd coil.

Thank you
John Dryja

easily the 11dd. It's nearlly 2 inches longer and probably about 4-5" more coverage per sweep.

I usually use the tip to PP, it's so much faster to pp IMHO , either one will do nicely , you just can't get it in the wet sand it will go nuts , HH

It has been my experience that the 11' DD also likes the bottle caps

After you learn the subtle language of the detector with the caps the 11" is the better choice.

11"dd...you have to dig it all on the beach...

All those scrap targets have value even if they are bobby pins or bottlecaps...they will help you learn your machines language faster...and they tell a story of what went on in this place, if its been hunted recently, and they help guide you to the good locations, and give you a recognition of that particular beach traffic and clientele's preferences...if you want gold jewelry, you have to go after any and all signals on the sand, and get good at reading what a beach is trying to tell you, thats what the scrap does...it tells you all about this place and if you have a better chance for gold or not....

Beach hunting is one tough gig...nothing easy about it except digging a target, so get a good light fast longhandle sandscoop, dont worry about pinpointing, just scoop and go after everything for this summer, and think about what you found and what its saying.
Mud.

based upon the particular make and model detector I was using.

Here on the Teknetics Forum I'll state that my favorite model in the Teknetics line today is the Omega. I am not a big fan of beach hunting, but when I got to the Oregon coast to evaluate a few models I worked with an assortment of search coils. I had the 3-coil Omega package and also took along the 5X10 DD and had my Delta along with the round 8" Concentric.

Most know that I am not a big fan of Double-D coils, regardless of their physical shape, but of the Tek. line I do like the sub-5" DD for hunting in dense trash, building rubble, or a rocky & brushy environment. Of the entire bunch I have been less pleased with the 11+" elliptical BiAxial (DD) coil. Working an Omega, G2, Delta and Euro-Tek Pro with all available search coils, my best performance for coverage and depth along with accuracy of TID & VDI read-puts and quick pinpointing to be the round 8" Concentric coil. Close, but still falling in 2nd place, was the 5

I'd be going with the 11" DD. You will have better coverage and certainly better depth. I find the DD's on the beach to run a little quieter, too. HH jim tn
