Hi Guys -

My aim at the beginning of 2014 was to relax a little more, take some time out from work after hours and enjoy a new, active hobby! Then…I became addicted, you need to have a consumer warning with these machines that wives and family members may become annoyed with the excuses to go to the beach! Or maybe a little book of possible excuses to use!

I have the standard DD coil and 8 inch mono for water hunting. The ATX, matched to the right conditions is unbeatable! Looking forward to adding the Deep-seeker coil and waterproof propointer to the tool kit - hint hint.....!

In total from January 1st 2014 through January 1st 2015 - I found 101 gold rings (ranging from 9ct to 24ct Gold) on the beaches and in the water. A fantastic year to get fit, and enjoy the outdoors with an exciting hobby.

The attached photo represents actual finds during 2014 from local beaches and the Pacific Islands

all the best for 2015!

Dale

Awesome...cheers Steve....Pity I did not keep the piles of rubbish, nails, spoons and misc metal junk...but probably could not fit in the photo anyway :) the beaches are a whole lot cleaner now!

(Tried to send response to your email but findmall says your mailbox is full)

Now that is a photo that any detectorist would love to be able to duplicate.
My 5 gold in 30 minutes picture pales in comparison...

Keep up the great finds, and don't get hurt lifting all that heavy metal...go slow for the gold.

Thanks for giving me a new goal to strive for but with a -30F temps (with wind chill) for the next week I will be hibernating and catching up on the Honey-Do-List so when the thaw hits, I'll be ready to go.

You dont need any excuses for a haul like that! :surprised:

If fact, you can safely tell your Wife that your production this year put you in the top .001% of all the coil swingers across the Globe that chase beach/water gold, this accomplishment of yours is no small feat.......You have certainly earned that money shot, and have the respect and admiration of us all...Tell your Wife you could have taken up golf instead of this, spent the same amount of time and money, and have nothing to show for it!

Curious, what is your smallest ring/largest ring..(gr)..and deepest ring? love those chains too...total weight of your haul?

I can only imagine what you can do in 2015 now that you are in shape and in tune with your gear! I am thinking hard on what a guy would have to do to try to top this year of yours, or even come close to half...absolutely stunning performance, and a great adventure you generously shared with us here on the Forum!:beers::please: Sir, hats off to you!:clapping:

WOW,very well done,it was a nail biting finish but just got to that magical figure in the nick of time, loved reading your progress during the year and love the way that you have spent some time and thought about that fantastic picture.

Quality read and update :clapping:

Have followed your progress all year and it has been truly astounding. You can certainly can be proud of your accomplishment. Are you planning to go for another 100 this year, or maybe more? I don't think we ever come even close to finding all the gold rings in the water. For every one we find, there could be many more out there. Congratulations :clapping: Keep bringing them in.

Steve, given your success, and the fact that many of us live too far from the beaches to do a lot of gold jewelry hunting, would you please take a moment to suggest how we should pick sites on the Gulf of Mexico beaches to look for jewelry? I am wondering about such aspects as these: upscale condos, motels, etc. near the beaches, and maybe mid-scale sites, too? How about public beaches where detecting is allowed? Mostly in the water, or mostly in dry beach or mostly in wading and wet sand? Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I bought my wifey a car a few years back when gold peaked. I sent my gold to a refinery in Texas, which got me 98% of the spot price plus they returned all the stones from the rings!

The Perfect Storm, right hunter, matched with right machine and hunting area. 2015 will be interesting because of your sharpened skills & knowledge.

hello sir...

can you give me some tips on the setting of your Garrett ATX?
i very frustrated with mine as it always collect rusty nail and small short gaze...
it goes very deep but always rusty iron...
i usually use it at beach... wet and dry...

Hi there Akiy 69

For me I don't tend to dig a huge amount of iron.

A) reset the detector before each hunt
B) I try not to ground balance, as this can change the tones of the detector
C) typically I use sensitivity 9 or so
D) on discrim, I usually set 3 or 4
E) with a pulse machine like the atx, I try and use it on wet sand
F) dry sand, for my location, I rarely hunt. Up in the dry you will be digging bottle tops, cans, the odd coins, junk. However on some of the USA beaches, like Huntington beach, I imagine the dry sand would be productive if your 1st on the scene.
G) wet sand and water seems to clean out a lot of the light, crap targets.
H) gold will sink, to the lowest possible point, can you reach the hard packed sand or base? that's where the gold and fishing sinkers are!
I) if I want a Fast hunt, the ATX is not the machine, use the CTX3030 or similar, but you will loose major depth and miss gold. The atx will pick up near everything.
J) learn the tones. Rarely have I found rusty metal with a high low tone. In some cases I have only dug High/low to speed up my hunt (yes leaving behind silver, iron and I guess white gold in cases)
.

ohh... thank a lot for the tips bro...
i will try it in my trip this Chinese New Year holiday...
leave low-high tone during low tide is a great idea...
also i will research some more about packed sand before my trip to Langkawi Island Malaysia...
wish me luck... thanks again...
