$100 Price difference between G2 and Gold Bug Pro

Hi

I've been looking at detectors for the last month or so, narrowed it down to about 3 brands 6 models, my budget is around $700-$1000

Two of the 6 detectors, I've been looking at, are the Teknetics G2 and the Gold Bug Pro.

Now the G2 with the standard coil is around $750, the Gold Bug Pro with the standard 5" coil is about $650 or the Dual coil package with the 5" and a 10"x5" coil is around $750

Now that I have done some research on both machines, and by most user reports the 5" coil is considered the best for nugget hunting and working in trashy areas.

So my question is, is it worth paying around $900 for a G2 with a extra 5" coil or save around $150 and get the Gold Bug Pro Dual coil pack.

Common sense tells me the Gold Bug Pro, Unless there is something more that the G2 has over the Gold bug that I don't know about.

Your advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks

The rod set-up is different is the only difference.

I would buy the pro and spring for the 5x10 coil later! The 11 inch coils come up used enough that you could wait for one but you wont want to take off the 5x10. If you are new to detecting the gb platform is fairly easy but very busy. you will have to dig allot of trash to get to know it. But once you start finding the gold mixed in, if your like me the trash is where I hunt.
Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks Godigit

The main reason I was looking at the Goldbug Pro 5" & 5"x10" dual coil pack was the $50 saving on the second coil, as separately the 10"x5" coil sells for around $150

I haven't thought much on the 11" coil, I know its standard on the G2 and Goldbug Pro DP, purchasing second hand would be the way to go.

I can see the 11" being useful where there is not too much iron and trash, plus maybe a little extra depth.

I bought my Gold Bug with the 5" round coil and then bought a 5"x10" DD for it. Since i got the 5x10 the 5" round coil doesn't get used. In fact i have it up for sale cheap. The 5"x10" is good in trash and get better depth. From what i have read it is the prefererd coil for nuggets. I would get the Gold Bug and if it does indeed come with the 5"x10" coil as an option that would be my choice.

Thanks Rebel1, exactly my thoughts as well, plenty of good reports on the 5"x10"

I will email some sellers and see if there is a deal with just the 5"x10", would be nice if that coil was the new standard for the Gold Bug Pro.

The Gold Bug Pro is a very sweet machine to use, very stable and deep enough for most locations.
I really enjoyed the 11" DD coil but have no experience with the smaller coils.

The 5 x 10 DD coil is the real deal. It's one amazing coil.

I have preferred the 5" DD more on my Omega. The 5X10 DD is the one I mounted on my personal G2 and it is a stay-put combination.

I am not a fan of the 11" DD because I hunt trashier sites most of the time, but I know some people really like the 11" for more open area with fewer masking targets.

Want a good 3-coil package deal? Get a hold of me at monte@ahrps.org as a guy I know got a new G2 with the extra 5" and 5X10 coils for himself and his wife .... then they got 'hooked' on fishing, instead. His wife didn't get tat interested in the detecting group meeting, but likes fish.

They never used their detectors and I 'snagged' the pair of detector packages in trade. He wanted my Chevy Blazer to get them off to catch fish. Would you like a 'reel' deal on a pair of 3-coil packaged G2's, or only swing one at a time? I needed the $$$ for my Blazer and these have me a bit 'anchored' and I have a trip coming up. They need to go so I can in a couple of weeks.
