As I posted a couple weeks back, I bought another A T Pro. Love the tones on the A T and finally broke down and got another one. Plus, it's water proof, you know!
Anyway, my hunting buddy and I hit our old fairgrounds today. Been getting some rain and about the only time you can dig on the old grounds is after a good soaking. Over the years it has had a lot of different activities on it and many area's are a dirt, gravel mix along with some broken up asphalt and has a lot of decaying iron around. Even under the best of digging conditions it is a tough dig. Although it has been hunted hard over the years, it still gives up a goodie here and there. A couple of months back I recovered a 1855o Seated half and a 1853 Seated dime. So, the lure for something good still draws us to the spot.
This morning, how these were missed over the years is a good question, I hit two monster coin spills. Unfortunately, they yielded all modern era coins. From the first one from about a 2' square area I recovered 18 quarters. No other type of coins, just quarters. An hour or so later I ran into another one. I don't know how many coins came out of this 3' or so square area, but it had to be at least 70. Besides the 18 quarter spill, I hadn't dug more then 8 to 10 other coins all morning and one of those was a 51 wheat.
As we were working our way back to our vehicles, I got a screaming hit reading in the silver quarter range. From about an inch I popped a nice hefty 925 marked silver ring. It probably hadn't been there to long and may have been lost by a frisbee golf player. My guess, anyway. All in all, an interesting 4 hour hunt. HH jim tn
