10 x 12 SEF coil owners - "installation" question for you.

I got my new 10 x 12 SEF coil tonight and when I put it on my Explorer it wasn't perpendicular to the shaft. I would say that it's about 20-25 degrees off. If I really press down on the shaft and keep it straight when tightening the nylon nut it's better but as soon as I moved the position of the coil a couple of times it goes out of whack again.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue with their coil or had to do anything special to keep it perpendicular?

check your lower shaft movement, its usually have some and some times is little bit to much shaking-construction not perfect. but check your lower rod top what the shape of the smaller square which go in to the upper shaft, its made not to allow to circle. but can be your lower rod made with wrong alignment because its made from two separate peaces carbon fibre and plastic it can be not write from the factory, check if its stable in connection place. with round original coil its not easy to see bad alignment good luck

Thanks stasys. It's not that the coil is twisted in the shaft, that alignment is OK. It's at an angle from the shaft and isn't parallel to the ground.

I bought a Tall Man lower shaft when I got mine. It worked fine.

Even though they are fantastic coils, they are not a big outfit. I've heard of a larger diameter coil wire was used for a bit and people, including me, were having a heck of time sliding the wire inside the shafts. Kellyco apparently replaced some for some of the folks. It's not unreasonable that when one came out of the mold, the ears on the coil were somehow a bit off.

Let KellyCo know. Maybe they'll just send you a new one and you can ship the old one back. Sometimes I have agreed to charging me for another coil on my CC for the new one. Then they credit the account when they receive the defective one. That allows no downtime when waiting for the product. Yours is still useable but annoying as I hear it. jim

I think you are right Jim. It looks to me like one of the ears are off and maybe the holes are a little different too.

I did talk to Kellyco and they said they would take care of it so that's all good.

I just thought maybe I was missing something that would be an easy fix.

Thanks for the reply! -- Steve
