10" vs the 9x8

I bought a 9x8 coil for my Lobo ST this year for some hunting when I wasn't prospecting. Not doing anything today, I thought I would do a air test on both of these coils. Since I had the 9x8 hooked up, I tested it first. The coil is very powerful. Coins were air detected out to 15 inches. Under discrimination mode coins were still detected out to 12-15 inches. The discrimination was pretty good, gold about the same as iron (my pocket knife). The thing that caught my eye was the (or ear) was the power. Next the 10" elliptical. This coil did not have the power, it was still strong by a good measure, but the ground balance was really good. During the 9x8 coil test I put a piece of silver ore containing native silver wire and pyrite and the 9x8 picked it up like a quarter. During the 10 inch elliptical test, the silver ore was not even noticed using the full metal mode and normal gb mode. I am anxious to test these coils out during more hunting. I can see now that the 9x8 will be a clean up coil for clean parks.

This coil is very underrated.Because it is a concentric coil most people swap it for a double d coil to cope with mineralised soil better. But as u say,on clean ground this coil will do the business being very deep and precise on those hard to find small targets.

The best test will be actual use out on the ground - air test is one thing but on the ground creates a different condition. Interesting though.
