Hi bossman. I use the 10 inch coil on my lonestar mainly for relic hunting/hunting older sites that contain little garbage. I also occasionally use it on the beach (dry sand). This enables me to pick up deeper targets and get better coverage. Airtesting it againist the stock coil, I got and extra couple inches on coin-sized targets. It doesn't sound like much, but that could make all the difference in an area you've hunted using a smaller coil. The biggest downside is that pinpointing is harder, even with the x-method. To help with this, I usually lift the coil 3-10 inches above the ground (depending on what size target you have) and x it using the center of the coil. All in all, it can be very handy to have, regardless of what kind of hunting you do... if you are a relic hunter or search many older sites though, its a must! Hope this helps and HH!
I use my 10" coil on my Time Ranger in sand or wood chip playgrounds if there isn't too much trash metal. Also it works good in deep pea gravel playgrounds. I also use it in some sand volleyball courts that I hunt throughout the playing season. Like abcoin I use it when relic hunting in the woods or fields to cover more area quicker. If there is much trash metal in the ground where you hunt it will drive you nuts and you will be switching back to the 4" coil. But if you are hunting in more "open" ground you can't beat it. It does seem to get a little deeper than the 4" coil or 8" coil. I haven't regretted buying my 10" coil and I think it is good to have just for the additional option it gives you while MDing. You never know what kind of conditions or opportunities you may be presented with and it could payoff to be prepared. Good luck!
i bought a 10" magnum coil for my bh quick draw 2. love it. with my machine it is dead on accurate using the x method of locating. no regrets buying it. i found my qd2 on ebay for $90!! thats with s&h.
