Recently I had a chance to use my new 10" DD Excelerator search coil, that I got from Kellyco. I put it on my MXT, and using the coin mode off I went. It did not take long to begin locating targets to dig.
During the next few days I was able to log about 20 hrs using the 10" coil. Most of the targets were iron and down between 6 to 12 inches in depth. One target a women's silver ring was down around 12" to 14" deep. I had just dug an axe head and before filling the hole I double checked the hole and got another hit indicating a VDI 83-85/ 25 cents. I dug deeper and recovered the ring. Always pays to double check those holes.
Now mind you I am not an expert on coils, but I know what works for me, and this coil did just that. It got down to the deep targets, VDI numbers were accurate, most of which were iron reading with the exception of the ring and pinpointing the targets was a snap. Due to mineralization I was not able to go much further than factory presets for depth and most of the time I left it at 9 on gain. For a large coil it is relatively light and I was able to swing it for hours without any discomfort.
As with any area with a lot of trash, I used my 4.5 x 7 Excelerator coil to get thru it. I really like the 10" DD Excelerator coil and when used along side the 4.5 x 7 Excelerator coil they make an awesome pair.
My favorite find of the hunt was an all metal mouse trap. Over all I had a great hunt and my equipment made it all possible. HH Dennis in Idaho
