Anybody have any info on the 10" DD Coil used with the MXT? How is the depth? Is the coil worth the money. Here's what I'm thinking If you buy the coil for $250 wouldn't it be better to put the $250 towards the purchase of a new Vision that comes with the coil? And by the way the Vision 10" DD coil is made better more rugged than the one you can buy for the MXT. This info comes form a Whites distributor.
If you buy the Vision it would be the way to go. All the newer 10" are marked with the V and are the same . There is no 10" made just for the MXT or the Vision. Rob
That's not quite true. All the new 10" DD have been "optimized" to work with the Vision, including its TX Boost feature. All the optimized coils will have a "V" stamped on the clevis bracket. The 10" DD I just purchased for my MXT has the "V" on it.
Not any more rugged, physically. Just the "wiring" has been tuned to tighter tolerances. Currently, all new 9.5", Super 12, and 10" DD coming out of the factory are Vision rated, and they will optimize the other sizes soon, according to Carl from Whites.
Edit: Haha, teaches me to take my time typing a reply, Rob beat me
To the best of knowledge, the D2 was made for the Vision project and all of the D2's are the same. That is when I first learned of the D2, when it came with a Vision prototype for me to test.
Of those 3 coil sizes, coils that were made after June 08 (look at the date code) are optimized for the Vision. The date code reads the first and last numbers are the year, the middle two are the week.
Example: A date code of 0109 was made in 10th week of 2009. Some of the early 10D2 coils had a shield problem, it is fixed now. Rob
Ron I don't know why the 10" would not be good for the MXT. I think in my area it is the best set up. It is very good on separation and deeper than the 6x10, is well balanced and not heavy. Pinpointing is no problem. If depth is not an issue than the 6x10 is just fine. Rob
The 6X10 elliptical DD is an 'OK' coil, and certainly has its following. I am not one of them. Personally, I have favored the 5.3 Eclipse on the MXT or M6 as a main-use coil over the stock 950 or the 6X10 or the little 'Shooter' DD coil because I have had very good depth of detection and experienced good trash handling in densely littered sites. in open areas, the four times I owned both the 6X10 DD and 6
