10" DD Coil VS Eclipse Deepscan DD 1400

I discovered a Confederate camp atop a hugely mineralized hill. My Eclipse 9.5" is essentially useless and registers brass as iron at 3 inch depth or more (luckily, I actually discovered 5 buttons at 3 inch depth). I borrowed a friend's 10" DD Coil and in a test, that detected buttons at 8 inches. However, searches are really noisy. So now I'm stuck between the 10" DD and the Eclipse Deepscan DD 1400 which I haven't tried. Anyone have experience with both? I also own the Super 12 and that thing fails at 2 inch depth. Did I mention this ground is highly mineralized? Thanks for your input as I don't want to make a $250 mistake.

The bigger the coil the more ground it see. Hot ground I would stick with the 10" DD or the 6X10 coil. I use a 12 X 15 SEF coil in real hot ground and I dig everything as it will sound like iron. I had a 1400 coil and did not like it at all. I hunt in relic mode, gain as high as possble, disc at 0, slight hum on the threshold, and trigger forward( dig everythng). This is what wroks for me. Thanks JMO! One question: if you're digging everything, why is the trigger forward? That will cancel your iron signals so I would't be digging much. And thanks for sparing me from the 1400 and saving me $250. I won't be buying it now. (Yes, I'm that easy to persuade.) :please:

Not sure I'd make a decision based on one response. I was looking at the SEF coils and the Deep Scan 1400. Have read lots of posts on both. Major complaint about the 1400 is the weight, although many of those comments came from people who have never used one. Have a friend here who uses the 1400 as his primary coil. I planned on getting both. Bought a 1400 from a forum member who sold his MXT and got it for $106 shipped. Haven't found time to use it yet, but look forward to it. Still looking for a discounted SEF. Not disparaging Joe, but you will find different opinions if you do more research.

I believer the 10" DD is the most recent.

Hi Joe in MD
With the Trigger forword the SAT(Self Adj Threshold) speed is higher than in the standard mode. It smooths out the threshold a little.

He said he has the desc set at 0. That means he is not descriminating anything with the trigger forward. If he had the desc higher then 0 then anything below the setting will be blocked. Can't beleive how many times I have been asked why I use trigger forward for that same reason. Trigger forward is mixed mode. Grunt for iron, high tone for non ferrous.

Hi Kyphote,i used the 1400deepscan on my M6 and like Joe i did not like it at all.It was really heavy and the performance did not make up for the weight of the coil. With the experience i had with the coil i would find it hard to recommend although other people seem to have success with it.

Hi Bob,
That's true, everyone has their own opinions. I had the 1400 coil and it was heavy PLUS it did not get much better depth than my 6X10 DD. JMO. I do have a 12X15 SEF that will blow away the 1400 JMO. I just got the 10"DD and have been using it lately. Seems pretty good, but I feel the 6X10 will separate better. JMO Any how I use the all my coils for different types of areas. I also have a 12.5 Excellerator coil that I will never get rid of, not good in the woods, but some times I feel it's better than my 12X15 SEF in some areas. JMO. What ever he decides good luck with it.
P.S.
trigger forward with zero Disc will give a grunt on iron and high tone for non ferrous targets, but in real hot ground if you listen you will here kind of a mid tone grunt( hard to explain), but I hunt in hot soil in VA some times and that ground is HOT! in areas. You have to dig everything if you want to find stuff. JMO H/H JOE in MD
