10" DD 7.5kHz coil users?

How many of you have the 10" DD 7.5 kHz coil? I've only heard that it is heavy but it seems like it would be just the ticket for me, as the concentric coils just don't do well for me here. I have the 6" DD 18.75 kHz coil and just LOVE IT! It's my favorite out of the 4 that I have and can't help but think that the 10" MF would be a great companion for larger areas with less trash. What can you tell me from your own personal experience?
Thanks, Idaho PRB

I have one and love it!!!!
It is really good to use around school grounds and parks and surprisingly it works well in trashy areas too in my opinion.
I can cover some ground with that coil and it hits hard and locks on very well on quarters.
I hunted a school ground last year with a buddy and he was using a 6" coil on his detector and together we found 190 quarters. I found 130 and he found 60.
It seems the coil can pick up quarters even if they are not under the coils sometimes.
I have used mine for hunting just about any type of area you can think of and I am very satisfied with it.
It is heavier than the stock coil, but its performance more than makes up for the extra weight for me.
Hope this helps some,
Felix

Oh, Man.....now I'm itching to have one. I thought that might be the case. Thank you for your report.

I have the 10.5 DD and it is all I use on my 705 as the stock coil falls short in my ground. I have dug deep relics with mine. My stock coil & cover are still new in the box.

PRB...there is no question the 10.5 DD 7.5kHz coil and the X-70 make for a perfect match. I have recovered a number of Civil War relics in highly mineralized soil using this coil. I have also had very good results with it on the wet/dry beaches. It's on my X-70 at least 90% of the time. In the near future I hope to add the 6" DD 18.75 to my collection of coils. It is slightly heaver that the stock coil but I compensate with Doc's Swingy Thingy. Using this device I can swing for many hours (and I'm an old codger) HH TomB

Thanks everyone! The clock is ticking now......:)

I use the 10 1/2" MF coil all the time when I am not using my small HF coil. I also have the HF 10 1/2" that I use for gold. They are a little heavy but get great depth and coverage.

Good Luck in getting one. I had one on order for almost 2 months and finally cancelled the order. According to Minelab they are on backorder from their vendor.

Hmmmmm................they must be really good.

I have one and use it mainly when I go to the beach. It is a bit heavier, but I put mine on back to front on the shaft, and that makes the unit better balanced for me. It is sensitive to small silver jewellery and goes pretty deep as well.

Not sure if we can mention suppliers here or not but I just bought one of these a few weeks ago from Detector Electronics. I believe that I they were also offering free shipping at the time. I've only had this coil on my 705 twice since I bought it. It responds a little different than the 10.5" 18.75 kHz. I have used the HF version so long that it's taking me just a little bit of time to feel confident with the MF version. These 10.5" coils are a little heavy but you get use to it. It's funny when you swap a 10.5" coil for a 6". Big difference.

Thanks for the info. I was actually hoping to find a used one but my hopes are starting to fade on that possibility. I guess I may just have to sell the coils I don't like to fund the purchase of the 10" DD. We probably better stop talking about sales here, I don't want this post to get off topic. Thanks again for all your reports and feedback. Have a great day!

Yes some people put the 10.5 DD(MF & HF) coils on backwards and/or the middle S-bend shaft on backwards for better balance to compensate for this heavier coil.

Contact all the Minelab dealers, one may have a 10.5 in stock.

Thanks everyone. I have posted several of my other coils for sale or trade ( hoping to help finance the 10" DD ) and haven't recieved any interest on them so I ran out of patience and ordered a new 10" DD 7.5 kHz coil last night :bouncy: It will be delivered on the 10th. and I just can't wait to run it. I usually GB around 15-19 around here and the DD coils are just the ticket for me. I can't say I didn't try with the concentrics, I really did, it was just so frustrating for me because I was always working to figure it out ( assuming it was ALL ME ) and everytime I would put either the 6" DD 18.75 kHz or the 5X9 DD 18.75 kHz coil on the machine, it was SO much more definitive on target location, clarity of tone and target identification ( numbers don't jump around as much). I likened the difference to trying to listen to an AM radio station, parked under a power line (concentric coil) and then switching to an FM station (DD coil) just night and day! Thanks for the reports and the links! ;)

Ver good report and great interference analogy! The round 10.5 DD's are very deep, you will notice a big depth jump(something like 40%) over your smaller 6 and 5x10 DD's on coin sized objects. But those 2 smaller DD's are deeper than the 10.5 DD's on very tiny gold targets about 1/4 to 3/8 inch or less(which are the majority). If you are after (clad, copper, and silver)coins in your highly mineralized soil, then you made a very smart choice ordering the 10.5 MF. But if you are after gold(nuggets, specimens, or jewelry) you might have ordered the 10.5 HF instead. But the MF will still work for gold just fine and will handle your iron mineralzation a bit better than the HF, but HF coils are noted for being a bit better for gold.

Yes a DD coil sees about 70% less ground effect than a Concentric coil(CC), thus runs more quiet and stabler in natures high mineralization in the great outdoors. But in most town and homestead areas with low mineralization grass-sod, black dirt, some clay, and washed gravel, the CC's will run fine. Also if you look on the coil chart it shows that the 9 LF CC is the only Concentric coil recommeded for mineralized ground because the LF rejects iron mineralization better than MF or HF. I cannot find that chart now as I have tried. Otherwise use a DD as you are correctly doing. Good Luck!

Wow! Thanks for the great information. Other than wishing I had a 55 gallon drum of it, gold doesn't really interest me ( I don't really look for it ). I love old coins and jewelry is cool too. I really like to hunt the older yards here ( City established in 1905 ). I may hunt some of the old parks more now too with the 10" DD I'm pretty sure ALL the silver hasn't been dug :) Have a great evening!
