Anyone have any opinions of depth increases, stability, sensitivity to little stuff, etc. when going with the bigger coil on the 3D?
Thanks,

havent got one yet but will get one in the next 3 months <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">

Mark,
I've had one for a few months and like it. I can't PROVE that I'm getting more depth but I definitely cover ground faster when doing a large field. Low trash, large area, the 10.5 is the choice. I find pinpointing is a little more difficult. It takes practice. It has it's strong suits just as the 8 and the 5 do. I have all three and will soon have an FZ-1 probe.
There is also a 12 incher made by Sunray but it's twice the price of the 10.5.

I have had one it is a bit heavy but it loves quarters. I have not really had any deep targets of yet I did try it around a year ago on deep dimes (silver) I used the five inch and the eight and the ten and they all read high coin from six inches to ten inches. Good coil but not good in trash. I wish fisher would come out with a super charged 9.50 or a two ten DD.

I have read that when pinpointing with the 10.5 inch coil that the target is about 1 to 1.5 inches above the center of the coil.

Biggest advantage is the coverage and is recommended for beaches, large fields etc. It pinpoints well pinpointing just above dead center because of its design.A bit heavy, but some hipmount. Minimal depth increase and as far as sensitivty to small objects never noticed much difference to the stock 8, but usually smaller coils have superior sensitivty. All in all to me just has a bit different innards and makes a nice acc. coil and is used by many with good results.

I've recently began using the 3D more and I'm thoroughly impressed with it as a coin killer. Hunting newer areas (like new school playgrounds) I'm running in salt mode and digging nickels like they're going out of style! I was mainly curious about the big coil for coverage when hunting beaches and school yards.

I have the 10.5" on my CZ-20, and I have one for my CZ-5, which is my primary coil for that detector. If you hipmount your 3D, you'll be able to extend the stem out more, giving you a larger swing arc, like a White's. You can really cover ground with a swing that wide.
I know what you mean about the Nickels. I have a schoolyard nearby that gives up nickels like there's no tomorrow. I guess someone went through here 10 or more years ago with an older "dail-discriminator", like a 1235X or other detector, and had the disc. set to high, and missed all the nickels. I find them everywhere, and at all depths.
