10.5 coil advice

I recently aquired the 10.5 inch coil for my coinstrike. I think I heard somewhere that this is a DD style coil. Does this mean it searches with a curtian partern as opposed to a conical pattern with the 8 inch? Where exactly is the pinpoint zone on this coil? Any tips or hints on my new toy would be greatly appreciated.

Matt,
I love the 10.5" coil. I haven't even took it off yet from the first time I used it.
Its not exactly a DD style coil. Its an eliptical coil. They have squeezed the receiver coil together and lengthen it to the point that it operates simular to a DD coil.
The good news about this is that you have a large coil with all of the advantages of a large coil, but without any of disadvantages of a large coil <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
Pinpointing is just like using a DD coil. Slowly sweep across the target while you pull the coil back toward you until you loose the signal, then slowly sweep forward again until you pick it up again. It will then be right inside the open center.
When using the pinpoint button: The open center spot right above the saddle in line with the lower pole is dead on.
This is an excellent design. Super fast response speed coupled with a long eliptical recieve coil lets you get surgical with this coil while still getting large coil depth. I love it.
Sweep speed is crucial. Don't go to fast or you leave it in the ground. When you hit a cluster of signals, slow way down until you can resolver individual targets. Slow.....d...o....w....n...

You know, I've never even looked at mine, but you're right, it IS eliptical! I thought it was coencentric, like the smaller coil, and I thought I read somewhere that Coinstrikes don't like DD coil designs. I'm gonna have to give this thing a try... thanks for the users advice. BTW, do you notice any difference in ID numbers with the bigger coil?
Thanks
BG

But being that it does have that eliptical style "foot" there it may take some practice to pinpoint dead on. Good luck, Bill
