Found these three coins at same location today. It is a friends residence in Upstate NY. First coin was the Flying Eagle type one cent. Not able to read date yet.

Other coins at two cent pieces. One is 1864 and this coin is very good shape. All lines on obverse are very clear. Strange thing about this coin is when flipping from Obverse to Reverse, is reverse is upside down and not right side up when flipped. The other two cent piece, with date I cannot really see is okay? Any ideas on this? Nothing in Red Book about this .

Hello!
Nice finds. I always like finding 2 cent pieces. As for your question, the 2 cent series is notorious for having rotated reversed dies. There are many examples that have the reverse rotated just a few degrees up to 180 degrees like yours. Examples with rotated reverses might have a little extra value depending on the rotation ( the more rotation - the more value), however since the coins were in the ground, not much. In 1999 the new statehood quarter series had several examples that had rotated reverse dies. The ones with 180 rotation were selling for around $400 of so at the time. The difference is the quarters are rare, while 2 cent rotations aren't. Keep on finding those coins!

Cheers!

Thank you for the info. I have to find a good way to clean the coin but leave patina on it. With the 180 rotation it has, and looking at coin under the glass and comparing with Photograde book, it would be a EF-40 or better. I think if I can get it cleaned, I just may send this one in for grading. I have never done that before so I am just curious to see what it's value or grading would be and how far off I am on grading.

Thanks again :)
